No huge surprise that players have rushed back for Warlords of Draenor boosting the numbers.
World of Warcraft subscriber numbers slumped to 6.8 million back in August but the Warlords of Draenor expansion was the shot in the arm the game needed to bring players back to World of Warcraft.
This evening Blizzard revealed that subscriber numbers have now surpassed 10 million having sold 3.3 million copies if the new expansion based on retail and download numbers tracked by Blizzard. CEO Mike Morhaime sounds happy with the sales so far adding:
““We’re thrilled that so many players jumped in to play Warlords of Draenor on day one and are having a great time with the new content. We poured a lot of hard work and passion into this expansion, and we appreciate all the kind words from players and the overwhelming support they continue to show for World of Warcraft.”
Numbers always see a massive spike when a new WoW expansion launches and hold for a few months before dropping back as players burn through the new content. It’s still going to take some time until numbers drop the to the low of 6.8 million which were posted in August.
Today’s subscriber numbers are good news for the developer and prove that there’s still plenty of players hungry for more WoW content 10 years after the initial launch.
