3D Realms Is Back! “Bombshell” Primed and Ready To Explode

Any gamer old enough to remember what “Pogs” are, will also instantly recognize the name “3D Realms.” Many would consider the studio as the pioneer that built the sturdy, pixelated foundations that the gaming world sits on today. The developers created such classics as Wolfenstien 3D, Duke Nukem, Max Payne-not to mention creating the first-person shooter genre. Now, the studio brings a new IP to the market with Bombshell.

3D Realms is old school personified, so announcing a new game in 2015 is a literal blast from the past. Aptly named Bombshell, Interceptor Entertainment and 3D Realms promise their latest title to be a “fast-paced” isometric RPG with first person shooter elements. The story outlined in the press release emphasized the games’ sci-fi slant, and fits the player in the role of a female mercenary. Wielding a bionic arm, Shelly ‘Bombshell” Harrison bears resemblance in character design to the “Duke” himself.

We learn that Shelly was a soldier in the Global Defense Force and was previously deployed to disarm an alien bomb. Her failure to disarm the device leads to a massive explosion known simply as “The Washington Incident.” The tenacity of the firestorm that ensues not only takes the life of Shelly’s team, but also leads to the dismemberment as she loses one of her arms. The loss of her team, and limb, leaves Bombshell to only blame herself.

So, where does she find redemption? In the prosthesis of a bionic limb, of course.

With the use of the alien debris to craft the limb, the game promises various skills as you learn to harness your new extension. Of course, she will need this to fight off the mad Dr. Heskel, stop the alien race known as the Kyrr, rescue the President, and save the Earth from destruction. Quite the “To-do” list you got there, Shelly.

Bombshell is aiming to be released in Q2 of 2015. The game is currently in development for PC and console. Expect more from 3D Realms in the months to come.
