No Guild Wars 2 stand-alone expansions

ArenaNet has always released stand-alone expansion packs for the original Guild Wars title but according to ArenaNet’s Eric Flannum, that is changing.
ArenaNet will be taking a different approach when it comes to new content updates for Guild Wars 2, instead of multiple expansions being released, ArenaNet’s Eric Flannum has stated there will be no stand-alone expansions for the game.
The new model being deployed will involve content being released via the  game’s store and this will also include new zones. ArenaNet has found that releasing stand-alone expansions splits their player base and the development team had to focus on reproducing basic content such as tutorials instead of creating new content.
This is probably a step in the right direction and it will save not only development time but also all the hassle of releasing new boxed products.
