Bethesda would ‘like to see’ Skyrim mods on consoles

Although it won’t happen on release, Bethesda have acknowledged that they want to try to bring modded content to the console versions of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Speaking to Edge, executive producer Todd Howard confirmed that “We’d like to see it happen.”
Modding and mod tools are, of course, one of the few remaining features that PC versions of games have over their console counterparts. The ‘Creation Kit’ mod tools will still only work on PC, but Howard says that the user-created content can easily run on consoles: “It works on all the consoles … As far as the 360 and PS3, right now there’s not an avenue for us to make that available, but we’d very much like to find a way.”

“90 per cent of our audience is on the consoles, so 90 per cent of our audience can’t even see this thing. So if we can solve that we’d like to.”
Bethesda have been in contact with Microsoft and Sony to discuss the issue. But although Howard feels console mods could be a reality some day, “I don’t see it happening for release.”
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is due for an 11 November release, on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Take a look at some brand new screenshots from the game in our screenshot gallery.
