Where To Find The Giant Squid In Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy: Where to find the Giant Squid

We don't even need to be on a ship to see a kraken.

The Giant Squid of the Black Lake is one of the lesser-discussed creatures of the Wizarding World. According to past material, it is actually quite friendly and known to even help out students despite its fearsome size. In a universe of mythical creatures, the Giant Squid sticks out for being rather unmythical in nature. Giant squids, otherwise known by legend as Krakens, are perfectly real and do dwell in the abyss of the ocean. The mythical part is one living in a mere lake for a food source and surviving just fine in freshwater. But if you’re a fan of squids or this underrated Wizarding World icon, it is possible to see it while playing Hogwarts Legacy. Here’s where to find the Giant Squid in Hogwarts Legacy.

The hunt for the Giant Squid- location

You’ll catch a guaranteed glimpse of the squid during the Flying Class quest and journeying all over the castle vicinity. Its tentacles will emerge from the Black Lake as you fly over. Beyond that, however, seeing it again is a matter of patience and luck.

Your best shot to hunt for the Mollusca is to start at the Hogwarts South Exit Floo Station, mount a broom, and fly out over the lake. Fly across it and keep yourself floating above a dock on the other side of the lake. This affords you the best view to see the two possible spots the squid emerges from the lake.

Summoning a Squid

At this point, you can pretty much just leave the game running and wait for the loud noise of splashing. The giant squid appearing is one of many random events with no direct trigger in the game.

You may want to try leaving and coming back or advancing time if you don’t see it after a few minutes, but there’s nothing to guarantee seeing it except patience. I personally had success flooing away and coming back after a couple of hours of gameplay, only for it to instantly appear.

When it does, the big squid’s tentacles sprout out above the water for several seconds and slowly retreat as the friendly Kraken roars. I don’t believe in real life anyone has ever heard a Giant Squid make noise, but this one does. And that’s it! Now you know where to find the Giant Squid.

If you picked Slytherin, you can see it in the common room by casting magic at the lake windows a few times. But the rest of us will have to settle for a real-life Loch Ness Monster hunting simulation.
