Aaaargh: FEAR Online gets spooky details and terrifying screenshots

FEAR Online - 4

Aeria Games have released some spOOOoooOOOky details and heart-stopping screenshots of their forthcoming free-to-play online shooter, F.E.A.R. Online, which I’m just going to call FEAR Online from now on.

Developed by Korean company Inplay Interactive, FEAR Online has players battling it out across a variety of modes. Barring stuff like Team Deathmatch and Demolition (which looks like Counter-Strike‘s bomb-placing gametype), FEAR 3‘s run-like-hell-from-the-wall-of-death mode will be returning as Escape, and Soul King – with players possessing NPCs to fight it out – will also be back. Armoured Front mode sounds like Domination with the addition of mech suits, and the official site makes mention of a co-operative story mode. So: many modes.

Speaking of the official website, you can sign up for the closed beta now by heading over there. Personally, I remain entirely wary of a formerly high-profile series becoming a Korean-developed free-to-play game, but who knows? It might be fantastic.

Four screenshots follow. Aaargh, etc.

Tim has been playing PC games for longer than he's willing to admit. He's written for a number of publications, but has been with PC Invasion - in all its various incarnations - for over a decade. When not writing about games, Tim can occasionally be found speedrunning terrible ones, making people angry in Dota 2, or playing something obscure and random. He's also weirdly proud of his status as (probably) the Isle of Man's only professional games journalist.
