Disney today announced the development of games based on Tim Burton’s upcoming Alice in Wonderland film. The games are inspired by Burton’s version of the classic tale – starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter – which is set several years after the classic “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass” stories. The Wii and PC versions of the game follow the film’s storyline but will also include new story elements and locations. The game will feature an upgradeable combat system and players will also need to collect “impossible ideas” which allow them to replay levels to unlock the secrets of Underland. After carefully selecting their companions, players must defeat enemies sent forth by the Red Queen, destroy the Jabberwocky and turn Underland back into Wonderland. In the DS version, the player must guide Alice through Underland and protect her from the Red Queen’s army. It will also feature an “innovative art style” a DS-exclusive playable character and support for the camera. All versions are being developed by France’s Etranges Libellules and will be released in the same week as the film, early next year.
