A recent report from Taiwan-based DigiTimes, translated by Twitter user Chiakokhua, claimed the new AMD Ryzen 4000 lineup of CPU was going to instead launch in 2021 due to a number of reasons, including to allow the release of the Ryzen 3000XT processor to have a longer hold on the marketplace. This report quickly blew up, leading many to believe the new AMD Zen 3 processors had been delayed. However, AMD states this simply isn’t true.
No AMD delays for Zen 3
“AMD is extending its life cycle, and definitely will not be launching the next-gen Ryzen 4000 series, based on Zen 3 architecture and using TSMC’s 7nm EUV process, in (September),” the original report read in translation. “The earliest Ryzen 4000 series will enter mass production is end of 2020, and launch in (January) 2021 at CES.”
Many questioned the legitimacy of the report, so AMD felt it necessary to release a statement on Wednesday to put an end to all of the speculation.
“AMD confirms that the rumor on a ‘Zen 3’ delay is inaccurate,” a spokesperson for the company said on Wednesday.
It was just a few weeks ago when AMD’s senior VP and CFO Devinder Kumar stated that plans were still “on track” to launch the next generation of processor and graphics cards in 2020.
“[We] believe we can deliver another year of strong revenue growth and margin expansion in 2020, based on the strength of the product portfolio, and the diversity of the markets we serve,” he said.
The new lineup of processors from AMD is expected to include a 10%-15% minimum performance increase over the current-gen Zen 2 architecture if past iterations of the CPU are any indication. On top of that, the Zen 3 lineup will feature 20% more density and a 10% power reduction compared to the previous generation.
The Ryzen 4000 set is scheduled to release in the fall of 2020, bringing in a new generation of processor to compete with the 10th-gen Intel Comet Lake chips.
