Apex Legends Season 8 Caustic guide

"My gas wafts through the air as if dancing with death."

It’s really hard to talk about Caustic’s Passive ability without mentioning his Tactical ability. There’s also no doubt in my mind that if you’ve played Apex Legends at least a time or two that you’ve found yourself caught in the clouds of an enemy gas trap. Caustic’s Nox Gas eats away at your health bar and can lead to downing multiple players that are low on health.

Tactical: Nox Gas Trap – Passive: Nox Vision

Firstly, Caustic’s Nox Vision highlights enemy silhouettes amid the clouds of his poisonous green gas. This comes in handy not only if you’ve dropped multiple traps in confined spaces but also if you’re attempting to squeeze an enemy team in a narrow hallway. You’ll be able to see through the gas of enemy Caustic cans with Nox Vision and avoid damage. The Nox Gas Traps regenerate at a speed of 25 seconds per canister. Caustic can hold three at any given time with a limit of six total active on the map. Holding down your assigned tactical key will allow the launching of a canister albeit for a small arc.

When I first set out playing as the mad gas scientist, I would just randomly drop these in hopes someone haphazardly walked into them. As time went on, I found myself depositing them more strategically. I feel there are both defensive and offensive strategies when using his Nox Gas Trap.

Caustic Apex Legends Season 8

For starters, when an enemy team is pushing, a breadcrumb tactic works to buck followers off your trail. Like a hot fart in a closed space–no one likes to be greeted with hot gas to the face. The Nox Gas Trap deals one damage per second and can prove useful if the enemy team has already been damaged. Using Caustic in this way in Apex Legends can help guide your enemies to a choke point.

For a more offensive approach, these canisters can be used to lead enemy teams narrow corridors or push them out into the open. If you’ve found some high ground on a building, place the traps below you near climbable ledges. This will give your team time to heal up and hold off a potential confrontation. If you’re hiding in a building with more than one entrance, dropping a gas trap on the interior can block the entry of a pushing team. I’ll usually watch my meter to ensure two to three can be placed in order to heal up before a would-be confrontation. This is especially important if Caustic’s ultimate ability is nearing a full charge.
