deathloop delayed september

It has been a good past couple of days for Arkane Studios and Deathloop. The time looping game about assassination and whatnot just got a banging trailer full of awesome music a few days ago. It seems both Bethesda and Arkane Lyon are not done though. Just in case gamers were still confused about the premise of the game, now they have answers. A new Deathloop Explained trailer has dropped, which gives us a look at both the game and the systems that drive it.

At its core, Deathloop plays like a puzzle game. You awake on the shores of Black Reef. What’s interesting about the island is that something called a Restart Loop is in effect. Everyone on the island relives the same day over and over again.

In order to escape, you must eliminate eight different targets from the group The Visionaries before the day resets. Sounds like a fun 24 hours indeed.

Of course, that is not something the targets are on board with. Everyone will shoot at you on sight wherever they find you. To survive and triumph over such odds, you need the power of knowledge.

Arkane Drops New Deathloop Explainer Trailer To Get You Up To Speed (1)

Knowing is half the battle

As the Deathloop explained trailer puts it, you are not exactly on an endgame timer. Players have repeated opportunities to learn about the environments, the enemies, and what exactly the perfect solution looks like. More importantly, you get to keep both your weapons and abilities between loops. These extend to supernatural abilities that allow you to lift enemies, link them so they all die at once, and more. Needless to say, abilities are going to be very handy and a driving part of finishing the game. Arkane plans to share more about the different abilities at a later date.

Mastery over your abilities help you make it further with each loop. The intel you gain is also going to be invaluable in your quest to escape.

As for The Visionaries, they are a group of artists, scientists, and party animals who would love to live forever no matter the cost. The eight of them are all located around the island, with four districts in four different time periods. The more you know about them, the easier it is to put together a plan to get them all at once. It is not going to be easy, that is for sure.

The Deathloop Explained trailer also states that the time loop causes amnesia, although that really does not apply to the player.

Hunter, hunted

We already know that we are not the only ones doing the hunting in Deathloop. On the other side of the coin is Julianna. She’s an unpredictable, smart, and powerful member of The Visionaries, and she is taking things into her own hands to stop you. It is safe to say that you will die to this cold-blooded killer more than once. You know what they say, live and learn.

Arkane also teased artifacts in the Deathloop Explained trailer and revealed that these modify how weapons work. The ways of murder are going to be crazy. Black Reef itself is a mystery as well, which players are sure to learn more about along the way.

Deathloop launches May 21, and remember, time is always on your side.
