Arkane Studios’ RPG dungeon crawler Arx Fatalis (the one before they made Dark Messiah) has received a new patch to improve Vista and Windows 7 support.
The source code for the game has also been released – though if you wish to make use of this, you need to own a full commercial copy of the game (not too tricky, it’s on both Steam and Good Old Games for about $5.00 USD.)
You can grab both patch 1.21 and the source code from Arkane’s page.
In terms of tech support, a new patch for an eight year old game to help it run on modern systems is none too shabby.
Arkane Studios was purchased by Bethesda parent company Zenimax Media last year. At the time, Bethesda’s Pete Hines suggested that they were working on an unnamed project with Arkane. While this update may be completely unconnected to that, it would be terrific if another Arx Fatalis was in the works.
Of course, Arkane may simply be helping out with Skyrim. Which would also be just dandy.
