One of the great things about Assassin’s Creed is that each game is set in a different period of history. More often than not, the setting is that which is rarely seen in gaming. We’ve all taken part in WW2 in countless shooters, but how many of us had explored renaissance Italy before Assassin’s Creed 2? Over the years there has always been speculation that one day we might play a game set in the present or not too distant future.

Assassin’s Creed writer Darby McDevitt has recently talked about how while he believes the present day is an important aspect of the series, it should not be the main focus.

“The backbone of this series is visiting different time periods and bringing them to life. A lot of hardcore fans really like the present day stuff, and while that’s the bookend and narrative wrapper of this series, that’s not the point”.

“With each game the selling point is the historical setting and characters. You’ll notice we’ve never ever marketed the present day,”Said McDevitt

In this writers opinion, taking Assassin’s Creed into the present day would be a terrible move. With each Assassin’s Creed installment I look forward to exploring and learning about a part of history I’m not familiar with.

We can expect to hear news about the next Assassin’s Creed game soon.
