One of the first games out of the gate for the next generation of home consoles is Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. First teased and revealed via an interesting livestream key art creation by BossLogic, it was followed by a cinematic trailer that gave us more of a taste of that Viking action. Microsoft subsequently touted that the first gameplay trailer for the game would premiere at its Inside Xbox event that occurred this past Thursday, and anticipation for it was definitely high. However, it all came crashing down once we saw those few seconds of supposed gameplay.
The in-engine teaser sure gave us some nice environments to look at. But for gameplay? Not so much. The outrage that followed was swift, and no one felt it more than Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Game Director Ashraf Ismail. On Twitter, Ismail addressed the concerns of fans. He conceded that they “rightfully expected to see more” and asked for patience in regards to reveals and more information. The passion and excitement of the community are certainly shared by the developers.
More in-depth reveals will be addressed through “a long marketing campaign ahead of us,” noted Ismail. So we can expect more of such reveals leading up to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla‘s holiday launch.
To be fair though, the fault of this miscommunication is not on Ismail, as Microsoft was responsible for pushing the gameplay angle strongly in the lead-up. Ismail had responded to fans in advance of the reveal to temper their expectations, stating that what was to be shown was “not a gameplay demo” but more of a teaser trailer for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Regardless, it only shows just how much fans want to see new games running on new hardware. I am certainly a big fan of the franchise and cannot wait to jump in as Eivor. That said, there are still several months before we can get Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, so sit tight.
