DICE are working on a new Matches feature for first-person shooter behemoth Battlefield 3.

To take advantage of the feature, when it comes online, you’ll need to have rented yourself a dedicated server and organise everything through Battlelog.

Clearly, this is a move designed to please those players looking to enhance their competitive play and limit their opponents to those people seeking the same. Once you’ve got everything set up you will be able to lock out all players other than those you allow, as well as alter everything from friendly fire to health regen rate and which unlocks/items are legal.

The feature will be available on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

DICE has not revealed when the feature is due to be launched, but community manager Ian Tornay did give this brief run down of the feature:

“Players will be able to coordinate Matches for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 through the Battlelog. To coordinate a Match a player must be actively renting a dedicated server. Once a dedicated server has been selected the Match host can set the Match name, start time, game mode, team size, and map rotations.”
