Best way to get Wakestones and Wakestone Shards in Dragon’s Dogma 2

This tale is not over just yet.

Wakestones in Dragon’s Dogma 2 are extremely valuable. As death is more of a permanent measure here than in other games, you’ll want to make sure you’ve got some handy. And not just for yourself.

How to make and use Wakestones in Dragon’s Dogma 2

You will scarcely come across whole Wakestones in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Wakestone Fragments are much more common, although they themselves are rare. Upon obtaining three Wakestone Shards in your inventory, they will instantly combine to make a Wakestone.

Upon death, if you have any Wakestones in your inventory, a prompt will appear, asking whether you want to use it to revive yourself. Upon doing so, you will come back to life with full health and a restored loss gauge.

The NPCs around you (not the Pawns, mind) will permanently die, no matter how important they are. You can use Wakestones to revive them. When you walk up to their corpse, you’ll have the option to revive them then and there. If you don’t, you won’t be able to come back to them later as they’ll get carted off to a Charnel House.

There are a couple of Charnel Houses in both major cities in Dragon’s Dogma 2. You can visit one and pay 5,000 Gold to look through the bodies they’re currently housing. You won’t have too long as they will soon expire. Unless they’re key NPCs, like Captain Brant, that will always be available to revive through a Wakestone.

So don’t worry if someone important or that you like gets killed. As long as you have a Wakestone, you can revive them. But to get a Wakestone, you must get the Wakestone Shards.

Wakestone Shards aren’t exactly common in Dragon’s Dogma 2, but if focused you should not have to worry about them much.

Wakestone Shards can be found as a rare item in the world. Whether in chests or as a quest reward, you will come across some through pure adventuring. This isn’t a reliable way to get Wakestone Shards unless you have the Dragon’s Gaze item.

Dragon’s Gaze is an important item you will gain when progressing through the story, very early on. You can use it infinitely to mark nearby Wakestone Shards on your map with a decent range. They won’t be permanent markers, but that doesn’t matter too much when you can use them infinitely.

These Wakestones Shards are finite, though, so to farm for Wakestone Shards, you’ll need to routinely swap out your Pawns.

The default Pawn Quest is “travel for a day and a night,” with the reward being one Wakestone Shard. As long as you keep accepting these Pawns, doing some adventuring, then swapping them out, you’ll have two Wakestone Shards coming in every full day. Whilst adventuring, you could try hunting down Wakestone Shards.

Finally, they can be sold in very few places in the world. The Scrap Shop does sell them, although they won’t be cheap and you’ll be hard-pressed to find them being sold often. Best just to complete Pawn Quests on rotation.

Before too long, you’ll have as many Wakestones as you need. If you are struggling to keep alive, then perhaps a proper knowledge of the healing and loss gauge is in order.
