A mysterious trailer piqued the interest of many to kick of Gamescom 2014. Not only did this trailer have the EA and BioWare logos present, it also hosted the “You’ve Been Chosen” tag-line. It looks as though the company’s next venture will be titled “Shadow Realms” and release as an episodic adventure.

This game brings us back to our roots in the realm of classic Pen and Paper RPG, but also delivers something that’s completely new and innovative for our fans,” said Jeff Hickman, General Manager and Vice President at BioWare Austin. “Shadow Realms is a new BioWare RPG that has the hallmarks of all BioWare games with a rich story, a unique world setting and deep combat progression, but built as an interactive experience that evolves the genre and broadens the appeal to online gamers all over the world.

From what we know, players will have the ability to choose either good or evil. This offers at least some tangent from traditional game mechanics and allowing for players to choose their own path. The 4v1 adventure delves into the lives of modern heroes whose powers have been “awakened” for recruitment in the fight.

It can be assumed from the trailer that the Shadow Realm discussed in the release is where the live-action characters end up after being tossed into its dark grasp. They have been tossed into the fight against the Shadow Legions on Embra, a place in which they have now discovered can lead back to modern day Earth.

There isn’t much else known about Shadow Realms at this point. If you are interested, there will be a closed Alpha and can be signed up for here.
