Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is the next big step for the franchise, and part of its content will include the ever-popular Zombies mode. Activision stated that players can expect a new generation of gameplay changes coming to the mode. This also means new characters, new settings, and for the first time ever, crossplay between different platforms. It’s all been exciting news for Black Ops Cold War, that is, until the latest reveal that the Zombies Onslaught mode will be a PlayStation 4/5 exclusive for a year.
As to what you can expect in Zombies Onslaught, it is essentially a two-player horde mode against the undead. You drop into locations that are drawn from the different Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer maps. Armed with your chosen custom loadouts, you need to survive within a specific area bound by barriers created by something called the Dark Aether Orb. Once you have eliminated enough zombies, the orb will start to move. Keep up, or you will take some Dark Aether damage. There is no camping here, it is move or die.
New kind of horror
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is mixing things up with Zombies Onslaught, that is for sure. Besides the moving battlefield, the zombies are still the main threat here. They will attack in waves, and can sometimes include more powerful Elite variants. Considering the movement of the Dark Aether Orb, even the smallest of zombie mobs can be extremely dangerous. While it remains unclear, it would appear that the goal is to survive for as long as you can.
Zombies Onslaught is a new way to play, but not exactly groundbreaking in ways expected for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. However, the biggest news is this mode is entirely removed for PC players. Not for a week, a month, but an entire year. It will only be available outside of the PlayStation ecosystem on November 21, 2021. Fans are definitely not happy, but it is what it is at this point.
