Burnout Paradise Developer: PS3/360 Not Maxed Out

Criterion technical director Richard Parr thinks developers who have “maxed out” PS3 and Xbox 360 are just out of ideas.

Talking to Eurogamer, Parr said developers talking of maxed out consoles are being “a bit silly”, and just “proof that you’re not the best. It means you’re out of ideas.”

Senior engineer Alex Fry explained:”You always find new ways to do things, the constraints lift. Not just with a new console generation but with every game you do…the constraints go away because you learn. While it’s nice to say you’ve maxed something out, there’s not really any point.”

The Burnout Paradise team constructed a world which performs well om PS3, Xbox 360 and PC alike, even though many other developers have struggled.

The whole “maxed out” discussion has not gone unnoticed by Microsoft, however, which is planning a new console with multi-compatibility.
