CD Projekt Red confirmed that there will not be a multiplayer mode for the next iteration of The Witcher when speaking with Eurogamer.
When quizzed on the topic Michal Platkow-Gilewski of CD Projekt Red stated that multiplayer doesn’t fit into the type of game they are making. They are looking to focus on the single-player mode and craft a game that players will be able to indulge themselves in for hours on end.
“There’s no place for multiplayer in so strongly a story-driven game as The Witcher 3. We want to focus on the single-player experience, delivering more than 100 hours of truly immersive gameplay.” – Michal Platkow-Gilewski, CD Projekt Red
It’s likely that the fans of the series will be happy to hear the news, not only has the game never had multiplayer before the game has never felt like it needed it, let alone that it would be hard to fit into a game the for the most part, revolves around one character. Luckily CD Projekt Red are rather aware of this themselves.
“Geralt, can be only one…” – Michal Platkow-Gilewski, CD Projekt Red
The Witcher 3 is set release at some point in 2014 for PC, Playstation 4 and the currently nameless Xbox 360 successor.
