Firaxis’ Civilization: Beyond Earth is now on Steam in pre-order form, complete with a bundle offer and some lovely PC system specs to compare against your own machine. The game is $50.00 USD (at least in the US,) but if you hand over another $20.00 you’ll get some extra games in a ‘Classics” bundle.
Fellow IncGamers writer Tim McDonald tells me that in the UK the only option currently listed is that classics bundle for fifty quid, which is a bit strange. No doubt the main game will appear for sale as a stand-alone in the near future.
If you pick up the Classics, you get Civilization: Beyond Earth (obviously) along with Civ III Complete, Civ IV and Civ V (those latter two without DLC, presumably.)
PC system specs are listed too, and here’s what Steam is showing for the minimum and recommended:
Minimum:
- OS: Windows® Vista SP2/ Windows® 7
- Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz or AMD Athlon X2 64 2.0 GHz
- Memory: 2 GB RAM
- Graphics: 256 MB ATI HD3650 or better, 256 MB nVidia 8800 GT or better, or Intel HD 3000 or better integrated graphics
- DirectX: Version 11
- Hard Drive: 8 GB available space
- Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c?compatible sound card
- Additional Notes: Other Requirements: Initial installation requires one-time Internet connection for Steam authentication; software installations required (included with the game) include Steam Client, Microsoft Visual C++2012 Runtime Libraries and Microsoft DirectX.
Recommended:
- OS: Windows® Vista SP2 / Windows® 7
- Processor: 1.8 GHz Quad Core CPU
- Memory: 4 GB RAM
- Graphics: AMD HD5000 series or better (or ATI R9 series for Mantle support), nVidia GT400 series or better, or Intel IvyBridge or better integrated graphics
- DirectX: Version 11
- Hard Drive: 8 GB available space
- Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c?compatible sound card
There’ll be a fair few people wanting to run this on laptops as well as desktops I’d imagine, so the fairly modest specs should help with that.
Civilization: Beyond Earth will be released in mid October. If you missed the 50 minute demo streamed by Firaxis earlier in the month, have a watch of that over here.
