Nexon America has announced that it has picked up Splash Damage’s Dirty Bomb and given it a swift rebranding as Extraction. In fact, the press release doesn’t refer to Dirty Bomb at all, but the fact that it’s a multiplayer-based, first person shooter “set in evacuated London following a mysterious radiological attack” pretty much confirms that they are one and the same. As does the fact that Splash Damage says they’re the same.

“We spent a long time finding the right partner for us on Extraction. Nexon America’s vast experience and the fact that they’re a true trailblazer in the F2P PC game arena ultimately made the decision super easy for us,” says Splash Damage’s Paul Wedgwood.

In a fairly long blog post, Splash Damage says that Extraction was actually the original name for the game, but Dirty Bomb was used throughout the alpha as the team wasn’t sure whether the trademark for Extraction could be secured. Presumably, that means it now has been.

The same post states that the developer intends the game to be an “on-going service” with regular updates and features added post-release. In traditional style, it also makes the claim that the game totally won’t be “pay to win,” honest guv: “We’ve always believed that multiplayer battles should be won through superior skill, and not the amount of money spent.”

There’s a special ‘teaser’ page up for the game over here.

Finally, the game will be playable at PAX this coming weekend, if you happen to be over near Seattle and have a ticket for that event.
