Platform holder imposed restriction prevent entire grid of human players.
F1 2011 will ship with 24 cars racing around the track in online multiplayer but, 8 of those cars will be under A.I. control. Speaking to IncGamers, F1 2011’s lead game designer Stephen Hood revealed that console tech “can’t handle it”.
“Microsoft and Sony quite rightly impose restrictions on network bandwidth to allow players that may only have a 1mb connection to play online,” said Hood. “We’re hitting the ceiling with F1 2011 and we asked if they would relax the boundaries for this game but they obviously didn’t want to. That leap to 16 players and 24 cars is really pushing what we can do at this point.”
We pushed Hood on whether or not 24 player online would be possible on PC, to which he replied that the player numbers are just not there.
“The PC is a much smaller audience compared to console,” Hood told us “so there’s no way we can dedicate resources to getting it working only for PC.”
