Crysis 3 Aiming to Launch With DirectX 11

As many of you may remember, when Crytek released Crysis 2, PC gamers had to wait for the elusive DirectX 11 patch. This time Crytek apparently are not planning to make the same mistake again. They are continuing their multiplatform approach to development with Crysis 3, but the developer hopes to have DirectX 11 support for PC at launch. Since the engine has been in their hands for a while now the implementation of these feature should be less problematic. When asked Rasmus Hojeengard, Director of Creative Development responded…

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure we’re going to have that,” said Hojengaard “I don’t know if we’ve announced that yet, but obviously we’re going to have DirectX 11 support since we already did it [for Crysis 2]. We basically started from aCrysis 2 DX11 patch, as starting point, and then we developed our technology from there on. We’d be pretty stupid not to capitalize on the technology we did for that and utilizing that from the get-go.”

Any footage shown so far has been of the PC version of the game, as currently the console counterparts are not ready to be shown. However console gamers should not expect a bad product. Hojengaard says they will benefit from the studios design methods which should apply to the consoles very well since their methods are “actually less reliant on shader technology than, you know, just really good moods, good light setups, and good asset creation.”

Even PC gamers with a slightly more aged setup can look forward to getting good performance from the game hopfeully. “We also want to make sure, even if you’re on the PC, even if you don’t have the super powerhouse, nuclear power plant at home, you can still run the game and get a beautiful experience from it.”

Question is where does this leave those with an almighty setup with enough teraflops of power run Metro 2033 on max while using the heatsink to fry a nice big steak? Hopefully this extra power will also be utilized well by the engine, but for now we will just have to wait and see.
