Crystal Dynamics Ips Shadow Of The Tomb Raider

Crystal Dynamics announces it has retaken control of its IPs like Tomb Raider and Legacy of Kain

Lara's tomb raiding days aren't over yet.

earlier this week, Crystal Dynamics announced that it has taken control of numerous IPs from its previous owner Square Enix. These franchises include Tomb Raider and Legacy of Kain. This is bound to be exciting news for fans of both franchises, and it leaves room for the developer to take them in interesting directions.

For those that missed it, Square Enix sold off three of its western studios to Embracer earlier this year. Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, and Square Enix Montréal, and all of their IPs have been added to the huge lineup at the publisher. It was a shocking move at the time and came around at an unexpected point halfway through the year. But it was also a decision that some think was for the best. It’s no secret that titles like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Marvel’s Avengers had underperformed, at least according to Square Enix.

It isn’t just Crystal Dynamics that have its IPs back either. Eidos-Montréal also announced that it had control of the Deus Ex and Thief franchises. Once again, this has sparked joy in their respective communities for the potential of new titles. Deus Ex fans are particularly excited about the prospect of another entry in the series. There’s no telling when we could see any of these games be announced, though. Ultimately, it’s still early days and these developers are likely hard at work on what comes next.

Good news for Crystal Dynamics’ IPs

At the end of the day, it’s good news all around for everyone involved. If studios like Crystal Dynamics can continue to work on beloved IPs, then it should make all parties happy. Again, it’ll be a while before we actually hear about any of these titles in an official capacity. For now, we’ll all have to wait patiently and see if this pays off in the long run.
