Deus Ex: Mankind Divided announced slightly early

Someone at Square Enix might be a bit upset, because the end reveal of their ongoing, three day ‘ARG’ stream has appeared early – and it’s Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. It’s looking like a proper Deus Ex game too, with Adam Jensen in it and everything.

It’s important to clarify that after Deus Ex: The Fall happened.

Anyway, this information emerged via NeoGaf and a google web cache of a Russian-language article announcing the game. You can read a web translation version of that article here, and I’ll be doing my best to get details out of it in the next couple of paragraphs.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will be coming to the PC (alongside PS4/Xbox One) and a release date is not yet confirmed.

As suggested by some of the prior details released by Eidos Montreal about a prospective new Deus Ex title, this game deals with the social divisions between those who have augmentations and those who do not.

It sounds like it’ll be set after the events of Human Revolution, but there’s some stuff in the Russian piece about not really taking decisions and actions from prior saves into account. The example they give is Malik, who apparently won’t be in Mankind Divided due to her being a sort of Schrodinger’s pilot of sorts.

Jensen’s return as protagonist is pretty much confirmed by his prominent presence in one of the screenshots, and he’ll apparently have learned to shoot some sort of blade-crossbow in this installment. Unless that’s just weird translation. There are mentions too of improved AI, some kind of seeing-through-walls ability for Jensen, and turret hacking from a distance.

A fuller and more official reveal will no doubt be coming from Square Enix and Eidos in due course, now that the information is out there. Here are some images, some of which look like (treated) screenshots and some which look more like concept pieces.

Amusingly enough, this means that Jensen’s appearance in the TressFX 3.0-related slides from GDC actually was a clue.
