Yesterday was a big day for Blizzard, the developer that has really made its name on the PC with the StarCraft, Warcraft, Diablo and World of Warcraft franchises. Although they started out with consoles back in the good old days of Silicon Synapse, the PC is what has made the company. Now they are back on consoles with the announcement of  Diablo 3 for the Playstation 3 and Playstation 4.

Split Screen Gaming

The wonders of old console split-screen multiplayer technology

It’s been known as far back as 2010 that Blizzard has been experimenting with a console version of Diablo 3 so it was no huge shock to the fans when it was finally revealed. It has however rubbed some PC Diablo gamers up the wrong way.

No always-on requirement, co-op play on one screen for up to four players, no mention of a real money auction house (yet at least). These are features PC gamers either did or didn’t want in the PC version when the game was originally announced. Right now we don’t have a full picture of what will be in the console versi0n, Blizzard are still being a little sketchy on this, but more will be revealed in the weeks and months ahead.

Over on Diablo: IncGamers, Eric has taken an in-depth look at yesterday’s announcement, the reactions from the community, and he addresses arguments from players such as  the PC version’s design being ruined by the console.
