As we head into the next generation of console gaming, that would also mean plenty of new games for the PC platform. Driving games have always been part of the visual spectacle of a new generation, and this upcoming one is no exception. Revealed via the Inside Xbox event, Codemasters’ Dirt 5 will make its way onto your platform of choice this coming October. A Google Stadia version will launch in early 2021.
Dirt 5’s global journey will take players to some of the most thrilling, exotic, and picturesque locales like New York City and Rio de Janeiro alongside challenging events in remote areas of Greece and China. Expect a brand of in-your-face extreme racing in a variety of vehicle classes from buggies, unlimited trucks, and rock bouncers to traditional and modern rally cars. The game will be fully optimized for all platforms, so you can be sure it will be a marvel to look at. Vibrant visuals, a thumping soundtrack, and dynamic weather conditions make for a cocktail of fun in my book.
For drivers searching for a purpose, the expansive narrative-driven Career mode is your calling. Bigger in every way with plenty of events and challenges across the toughest terrain, take on the world with your own custom ride. The livery editor gives you more freedom than ever before to get wild and show your style. With a non-linear progression system, Dirt 5 lets you play what you want to play.
A party awaits
Codemasters has also made sure you can play together. Dirt 5 will feature the return of split-screen play for up to four players. More details will be revealed soon about other game modes. A surprise would be a new mode that is “focused on creativity and designed for social couch play with friends or global online battles against the best racers in the DIRT universe.”
To top it all off, Dirt 5 will be home to the voice talents of both Nolan North and Troy Baker. The duo will be guiding drivers through Career mode and be heard in the in-game podcast series. That will also include “voice talents of other celebrities from the worlds of racing and gaming.”
“As a studio, we are big fans of DiRT 2 and 3. This game is our homage: a bigger, amplified DIRT off-road experience in a setting that is alive, challenging and fun,” said Robert Karp, DIRT 5‘s development director at Codemasters. “Whether you want to compete against the AI on some of the world’s most challenging environments or play a four-player split-screen game with your friends, DIRT 5 has you covered.”
