Dishonored

Platform: PC, Xbox 360, PS3
Developer: Arkane Studios
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
Release Date: October 09, 2012

Game Description: Developed by Arkane Studios – a studio made up of developers that worked on such games as Deus Ex – Dishonored is a tale of revenge. Players take on the role of Corvo, formerly a body guard of the Empress, who has been, erm, “dishonored,” if you will after being framed for her murder. After escaping his imprisonment thanks to help from a mysterious individual known as “The Outside,” Corvo joins up with the resistance sets course for revenge.

Gameplay is extremely flexible, and players can approach their assassinations from hundreds of different angles in the open-world city of Dunwall – a city modeled after early 1900’s London (that means there are plague-infested rats, too). Players can play the game like a supernatural Bulletstorm or make it through the entire game without killing one person. It is all about choice.

These choices affect a unique “chaos” system that is determined by the player’s actions. Start off every mission Transporter style (i.e. kicking the door in on someone’s face) and continuing on in such a fashion will add more chaos. Taking a stealthy approach will do the opposite. Toss in an RPG-like progression system that modifies your powers, a story that changes according to the chaos system, and the ability to play missions over to try out different approaches, and you have one more game to be excited about in October.
