It’s never easy funding a project that’s been running as long as Dwarf Fortress and there comes a point where you need money to keep development going. Brothers Tarn and Zach Adams have dedicated nine years to keeping Dwarf Fortress updated, and while it may not be the most exciting looking game, it’s captured the imagination of gamers.

Today Bay 12 has taken the plunge and launched a Patreon page to help fund continued development and here’s why:

“Bay 12 Games has been our full-time job since 2007, and we’ve only been able to do it because of the generous support of our fans.  Making games means a lot to us — Tarn gave up his job as a math professor to devote all of his energy to Dwarf Fortress, and contributions from our players are now our sole source of income.”

It seems only fair that Dwarf Fortress fans help fund the continual development of the game, after all, a developer has to eat and pay the bills. If you love the game you can chip in via this Patreon page.

If you’re not familiar with the game, read our recent interview with Tarn Adams.
