Fair chance of hacking: Games Workshop’s Chainsaw Warrior heading to PC

Chainsaw Warrior

It must be mayhem over in the Games Workshop licensing department right now. After so many years of protecting every scrap of trademarked property to the death, the British tabletop gaming titan has decided to give out licensing deals to whoever happens to stop by.

Creative Assembly showed up for coffee and walked away with the Warhammer Fantasy Battle rights. Full Control were just wanting to borrow some sugar but ended up with Space Hulk. Slitherine has some sort of Warhammer 40,000 turn-based title in the works, and even Behaviour have managed to wrangle a 40k MMO deal.

So I guess in light of all that it’s not too surprising that Bristol based Auroch Digital have got hold of Chainsaw Warrior, the 1987 solo-play board game. Amazingly, this is one of the few GW properties from the late 80s that I haven’t played, so I can’t really comment on how well it’ll translate to the videogame world. Dark Future, on the other hand, would be great. Hey! Someone buy the Dark Future rights.

In the original, you were playing as a nutty chainsaw man against the zombie hordes of New York and it looked like this.

“We can’t wait to see [the game] being brought to a whole new generation of digital gamers who can enjoy the dramatic struggle against seemingly unwinnable odds, as well as the remorseless ticking of the clock,” says Games Workshops’ Jon Gillard, wiping some gore off his chainsaw.

Sadly, the game will be coming to those terrible tablet devices first. A PC version is, however, planned for later release.
