Flintlock The Siege Of Dawn Announced Combat

The open-world RPG Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn announced as a day one launch game for Game Pass

Zap and blast.

This week, the creators of 2018’s Ashen, A44 Games, announced a new open-world RPG, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn. The game also made an appearance today during ID@Xbox, just so you wouldn’t forget. Like Ashen, Flintlock is a third-person RPG with brutal combat. The game is all about fighting off undead hordes, and you’ll do so with a blend of magic and gunpowder. My favorite kind of blend.

Based on the cinematic trailer alone, it’s hard to say how close Flintlock will follow in Ashen‘s heels. For the most part, the games look as different as night and day. Ashen was a successful Souls-like game, with randomized elements and passive co-op gameplay. You attacked, dodge-rolled, and managed your stamina. Oh, and you dodge-rolled. Did I mention that? Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn didn’t get narrowed down to a genre when it was announced. But, based on its description and trailer, it’s an action RPG where you can use spells to fight or immobilize enemies before finishing them off with flintlock guns.

Either way, it sounds intriguing. According to the development team, Flintlock stars Nor Vanek, “a member of the coalition army.” She’s joined by Enki, a mysterious being with magical abilities. Together, they fight undead creatures in a “personal vendetta against the gods.” It sounds hardcore.

Hocus focus-attack

Unlike Ashen, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn has been announced for Steam, as opposed to being a temporary Epic Games exclusive. The game will arrive later this year for PC via EGS and Steam. And it’s a day one launch game for Xbox Game Pass. I’m not sure yet if that means it’ll be on PC Game Pass as well, but the chances are certainly high.

“With an open world to explore, leave your mark on a vast battlefield as you travel through desert sands, cavernous ruins and towering cities filled with secrets and lead mankind’s final siege against the tide of the dead,” reads the game’s description via press release. “Players must embrace their creativity and master a rewarding combat system by blending axe wielding, gunplay, magic and more to unleash powerful combos and prevail over the most powerful beings in creation.”
