Fortnite gifts players with armored walls and cakes for its fourth birthday

No admittance except on party business.
Fortnite Armored Wall Fourth Birthday Feat

Fortnite is having a bittersweet fourth birthday this week. On the more sour end of things, the Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney reports that the game won’t be on Apple devices again for years. However, on the nicer side of the spectrum, the developer is celebrating four years of players building walls and aggressively dancing at one another. Starting this week, Fortnite is getting new items: an Amored Wall and Birthday Cake and Presents. And all of these gifts are yours, free, in the game.

To be fair, the celebrations are not exactly for the release of Fortnite. The game launched on the Epic Games Store way back on July 25, 2017. Yes, it’s really been that long. The celebration, instead, is rather for the release of Fornite‘s battle royale mode, which led to its explosive popularity. Before the mode launched, the game was Fortnite: Save the World, a co-op, shooter/survival horde game. But genre mishmash didn’t prove to be as popular as Epic surely hoped, so the developer made the trendy pivot to battle royale. And now you know the rest of the story.

We now enter this current time, and Epic is giving away some gifts. Starting today, Fortnite will have Armored Walls, which you can find in Supply Drops or around the map. Though Epic considers them traps, their use is fairly self-explained. Picking up Armored Walls allows you to fortify your walls, and it will take many explosions or a butt-load of bullets to break. You can also build walls with the armor already installed if you need to put up defenses quick. I’m assuming these will be rare, and the game world won’t be covered in annoying metal cubes. But we know how Fortnite matches can be.

Delicious loot.

Happy birthday to the ground

From September 24 at 9 AM ET to 28 at 2 AM ET, Fortnite will have Birthday Cakes and Presents lying about. Cakes will add health and shield points, while the presents harbor free loot. There will also be new birthday Quests and related items. You can earn yourself a Hooplah Hammer Pickaxe, which is some cake on a stick, and a cupcake emoticon. It all sounds like a fun time.
