Fortnite leak suggests a sliding mechanic could be on its way

Sliding around the island

Fortnite Season 8 has arrived and the cubes are taking over the island. This season has seen the debut of new content such as map changes, new NPCs, new weapons, and much more. However, those may not be the only big changes to be introduced to the battle royale. Compared to other titles in the battle royale genre, Fortnite is unique and this is mainly down to its building mechanic. However, in some ways, it shares similarities with the likes of Call of Duty: Warzone and Apex Legends in the form of weapons, vehicles and limited-time game modes, for example. According to a leak, another shared mechanic could be added into Fortnite in the form of sliding.

Sliding in a battle royale can be a useful way to gain the edge over an opponent in a gunfight. Similarly, you can use sliding in order to escape a gunfight and get behind some cover. Notably, sliding has become somewhat controversial as it has proven to be game-breaking at times in games like Call of Duty: Warzone.

Fortnite leak hints at how sliding could work on the island

The prominent Fortnite leaker, HYPEX, shared some information on Twitter surrounding the sliding that the developer is allegedly working on. HYPEX states that the new movement type will increase your field of view by a total of 15. Also, performing a slide will make your camera shake and it will have a two second cooldown. For now, there are no details of a release date for this mechanic, or if it will end up being a looted item.

Ultimately, the two second cool down will ensure that players do not spam the mechanic. If sliding does become an item, it could be extremely popular among players. Without any confirmation from Epic Games, it is unknown if, or when, this sliding leak will become real in Fortnite.
