Fortnite Battle Royale players can no longer use VPN

Epic has decided to block VPN users from playing Fortnite‘s Battle Royale. In the past week, Epic has been busy cracking down on cheaters and they appear to be tightening up Battle Royale. Today Epic posted the following announcement:

We have recently begun blocking VPN usage to play Fortnite Battle Royale. If you connect via a VPN service you will be kicked from the game but no action is taken against your account.

Thank you for your patience as we work to keep FNBR a fair community!

Why anyone would be using a VPN to play Fortnite is a mystery unless they were up to something so this precautionary measure is probably a good move. There have been recent issues of players being banned due to weird bugs in the game but Epic ran a check and unbanned anyone caught out by these.

Don’t forget kids, cheaters never win.

Same reasons using a VPN for anything else these days. They may have something else running in the background , or be using public or hotel wi-fi, or be in a country that blocks access to such games, or be using a school or university network, or just because online privacy is important.

vpn for gaming isn’t a great idea. i have tried multiple vpns for gaming and though most of them are decent, it’s better to play games without a vpn. i usually use ivacy vpn but my primary purpose is streaming and downloading, not gaming. each ms counts when you’re gaming, especially if you’re missing headshots in battlefield or other shooters. the only place you can use them in gaming is if you can use it for an morpg you can’t otherwise play.

That’s quite idiotic. I’m not playing Fortnite, but this is quite enraging me. The wireless I have available is very weak so I decided to combine several wifi dongles in a single redundant connection, and I can do that only thru a VPN called Speedify. So not all VPNs are necessarily for the user being “up to something”.
