Funcom Not Ruling Out Free To Play For AoC

FunCom has indicated that it may follow in the footsteps of other successful MMOs and make Age of Conan free to play one day.

While speaking to IncGamers in an interview earlier, Funcom’s director of communications Erling Ellingsen discussed going free to play with AoC. While not something the company plans to do in the forseeable future, he concedes the business model has worked well with another Funcom MMO. Following Blizzard’s recent admission that World of Warcraft might one day switch over to free gameplay with micro transactions to finance ongoing support, we asked Ellingsen if Funcom had the same plans for Age of Conan:

“We’re certainly not ruling anything out, but we don’t have any current plans for that. However, we’ve had huge success going free-to-play with our other MMO Anarchy Online, and we strongly believe its a viable business strategy for these kinds of games.”
