With a Kickstarter now underway for Gas Powered Games’ ARPG Wildman, all is not well at the studio with news of mass layoffs.

According to GPG’s Chris Taylor, who spoke to Gamasutra about Wildman, he appears to be betting everything on the new game, “We spent all the last dough that we’ve had, and the last several months working on it. So we’re betting the company on it”.

The company is obviously not in great shape and Taylor confirmed that, “The studio is still operating, but we had to slim WAY down to conserve cash reserves.”

Wildman’s Kickstarter has 28 days left to raise $1.1 million which could be a tall order, but it sounds like the situation is desperate to keep the studio going. Chris Taylor has created some excellent titles over the years including the original Dungeons Siege which was superb. It would be a real loss to see the company bite the dust.

More recently GPG had been working on Age of Empires Online.
