Genshin Impact Kazuha guide -- Weapons, artifacts, and talents

Kaedehara Kazuha is a new 5-star character who joins Genshin Impact's roster. He's a wandering samurai from Inazuma, and he happens to use the power of Anemo. His wish banner, "Leaves in the Wind," is available from today until July 20. Here's our Genshin Impact guide to help you with the best weapons, artifacts, and talents for Kazuha. Lastly, please remember that this Genshin Impact Kazuha guide is a work in progress since the character is still fairly new. Genshin Impact guide: Kaedehara Kazuha's best weapons, artifacts, and talents We'll discuss various factors affecting Kaedehara Kazuha's build in Genshin Impact. Freedom-Sworn (elemental mastery) - Freedom-Sworn (seen in the image below) happens to be one of the best 5-star weapons for Kazuha in Genshin Impact. This is primarily due to its elemental mastery sub-stat and its innate perks. It provides +10% damage and grants a Sigil of Rebellion whenever a character triggers an elemental reaction. The effect can even trigger if the character isn't on the field. Since Kazuha triggers Swirl fairly often, you should obtain 2x Sigil of Rebellion easily. This is converted into a buff called "Millennial Movement: Song of Resistance" which increases normal, charged, and plunging attack damage by 16%, as well as ATK by 20%. The effect lasts 12 seconds. Skyward Blade (energy recharge) or Primordial Jade Cutter (crit rate) - Both 5-star weapons work well for Kazuha especially if you want him in a DPS-oriented role. Skyward Blade grants boosts to your movement speed, attack speed, and normal/charged attacks. Meanwhile, Primordial Jade Cutter has the all-important crit rate sub-stat, and you gain an ATK buff based on Kazuha's max HP too. Iron Sting (elemental mastery) - Naturally, 5-star weapons can be very expensive to get, so you could simply opt for a 4-star substitute. This is where the Iron Sting comes in. It's a decent free-to-play (F2P) alternative for Kazuha since it comes from the blacksmith's forge. Likewise, the Iron Sting has an elemental mastery sub-stat, as well as the "Infusion Stinger" perk that increases overall damage by 6% for six seconds after you deal elemental damage (this stacks up to two times). Festering Desire (energy recharge) - There's also another option that's decent for both support and sub-DPS roles, and that's the Festering Desire. This weapon came from The Chalk Prince & The Dragon event, and it has energy recharge as a sub-stat. Its "Undying Admiration" perk increases elemental skill damage and elemental skill crit rate. However, this tends to be better when equipped by characters like Bennett. Blackcliff Longsword (crit damage) - Speaking of DPS roles, the Blackcliff Longsword (from Paimon's Shop) definitely helps. Kazuha can group up mobs and quickly kill them, leading to high uptime for its ATK-boosting effects. Lion's Roar (ATK%) - Lion's Roar (which comes from wishes) is also a good 4-star weapon. However, this only buffs damage against enemies affected by Pyro or Electro. Sacrificial Sword (energy recharge) - Also from wishes, the Sacrificial Sword greatly aids Kazuha's burst charge. Moreover, if you've got a high refinement rank, you can reliably reset his elemental skill cooldown with the weapon's perk. The Black Sword (crit rate) - Lastly, The Black Sword (from the Gnostic Hymn Battle Pass) remains a viable option. The "Justice" perk increases normal/charged attack damage, and crits allow you to regenerate HP. The only downside here is that it doesn't affect Kazuha's plunging attacks (which you'll often do as part of his elemental skill usage). Anyway, let's talk about the best artifacts for Kazuha in the next part of our Genshin Impact guide. Kazuha's best artifact sets Let's talk about the best artifacts for Kazuha in Genshin Impact. Chief among the options is the Viridescent Venerer artifact set from the Valley of Remembrance domain. When used in conjunction with the elemental abilities of other characters, Kazuha's constant Swirls will be able to debuff and damage enemies more reliably. Viridescent Venerer bonuses: 2-piece: +15% Anemo damage bonus. 4-piece: +60% Swirl damage; -40% elemental resistance to targets based on the element infused by Swirl. Then again, if you're using party comps that aren't too reliant on elemental reactions, you could also go with the Viridescent Venerer's 2-piece bonus combined with the Gladiator's Finale 2-piece bonus (+18% ATK). Alternatively, support-oriented Kazuha players can also try the Viridescent Venerer's 2-piece bonus and the Wanderer's Troupe 2-piece bonus (+80 elemental mastery). This option can aid you especially if you still need better 4-piece Viridescent Venerer rolls. Artifact stats: Main stats for DPS - Anemo damage for the goblet and ATK% for the sands. For the circlet, go with either crit rate or crit damage. Sub-stats - Prioritize crit rate/crit damage and ATK%. If you're going with a support/EM build - Have elemental mastery for your sands and circlet, and prioritize artifacts with elemental mastery sub-stats. Let's go ahead and discuss talent priorities and constellations in the next part of our Genshin Impact Kazuha guide. Kazuha's talent priorities Let's discuss Kazuha's capabilities and talent priorities. Normal Attack: Garyuu Bladework - This upgrades Kazuha's regular attacks (i.e., normal, charged, and plunging). Elemental Skill: Chihayaburu - The elemental skill pulls enemies closer, then Kazuha will be lifted into the air via a whirlwind slash that deals Anemo damage. Within 10 seconds, you can do a plunging attack called "Midare Renzan" that also does Anemo damage (subsequently pulling enemies once more). The skill button can be pressed or held (the latter has a larger AoE pull and damage). Elemental Burst/Ult: Kazuha Slash - Kazuha creates a large AoE field (comparable to Ganyu's burst) that lasts for 10 seconds. There are three damage sources here: the initial sword slash (Anemo), a damage-over-time (Anemo DoT) effect for enemies within the field, and the "Elemental Absorption" quirk. Basically, if enemies were previously affected by Hydro, Pyro, Cryo, and Electro, those elements will deal additional damage alongside the Anemo DoT (i.e., the extra element will tick five times). Kazuha's burst can be used fairly often, and you'll gain the extra damage from other elements that affect your targets. You can even swap him out while the burst is active. As for his elemental skill, the second instance of damage (the plunging attack or Midare Renzan) seems to be affected more by Normal Attack: Garyuu Bladework. Likewise, based on the Chihayaburu's tooltip, the talent itself only increases the damage for the pressed/held skill (i.e., the initial pull/whirlwind lift). Ideally, you'll want to prioritize Kazuha's burst, followed by his skill and, finally, his normal attacks. Note: Kazuha's talents use Insignias from Treasure Hoarders and Diligence booklets. Passive talents: Cloud Strider -20% stamina consumption for the party. Soumon Swordsmanship - Hydro, Pyro, Cryo, and Electro effects are absorbed by the Chihayabaru elemental skill. When you perform the Midare Renzan plunging attack within 10 seconds of being launched in the air, you'll deal an additional 200% ATK of the absorbed element. The "Elemental Absorption" proc can only occur once per use of the elemental skill. Poetics of Fuubutsu - When Kazuha triggers a Swirl reaction, teammates will gain a 0.04% elemental damage bonus for every point of elemental mastery that he has. This effect lasts for eight seconds, and multiple elements can be Swirled/buffed at the same time. Likewise, because this bonus only applies to Swirled elements, it won't affect Anemo and Geo (i.e., the so-called "rainbow buff" effect). You can see an example in the image below which comes from Kazuha's test run. Because I was able to Swirl Pyro and Hydro, the other character in the party, Barbara, gained extra elemental damage. Note: The EM-to-damage conversion works with Albedo's and Diona's (C6) perks since they give flat value increases. Sadly, Sucrose's percentage-based increases don't apply. Constellations Trying to gain additional constellations on any 5-star character in Genshin Impact can be very expensive. Still, Kazuha has some very neat bonuses, especially once he hits Constellation 2 (C2). In any case, here are Kazuha's constellations: C1: Scarlet Hills - -10% elemental skill cooldown; using your burst resets the elemental skill's cooldown. C2: Yamaarashi Tailwind - The AoE field created by the elemental burst has additional effects. It gives +200 elemental mastery for Kazuha and all other characters standing in the field. C3: Maple Monogatari - +3 levels for your elemental skill; maximum level is 15. C4: Oozora Genpou - When Kazuha's energy is below 45, he gains extra effects. First, his elemental skill grants extra energy. Second, gliding also regenerates energy. C5: Wisdom of Bansei - +3 levels for your elemental burst; maximum level is 15. C6: Crimson Momiji - After using Kazuha's elemental skill or burst, he gains Anemo Infusion for five seconds. Additionally, each point of elemental mastery increases the damage of Kazuha's normal, charged, and plunging attacks by 0.2%. Anyway, let's move on to the next part of our Genshin Impact Kazuha guide to talk about his ascension materials. Character ascension materials Kazuha's character ascension materials can be found all over Teyvat. Here they are: Insignias - Dropped by Treasure Hoarder mobs. Vayuda Turquoise - Dropped by the Anemo Hypostasis and Maguu Kenki; purchased from Souvenir Shop; higher-tier versions can be crafted by an alchemist NPC. Marionette Core - Dropped by the Maguu Kenki. Sea Ganoderma - Found along the coastlines of islands in the Golden Apple Archipelago. You can refer to our Sea Ganoderma farming guide for more information. Anyway, let's talk about what you can expect when Kazuha is in your Genshin Impact team. Genshin Impact: Kazuha character summary and gameplay tips We've discussed Kaedehara Kazuha's weapons, artifacts, and talent priorities in an in-depth manner already, but is he actually viable in your Genshin Impact comps? I've done tests with Kazuha and I've cleared Spiral Abyss (max stars) with only him and Bennett in a team. I definitely love his kit. Kazuha is, technically, a mixture of three amazing Anemo characters: Venti (crowd control/CC), Xiao (DPS), and Sucrose (debuff/elemental mastery). To be clear, though, I found it very hard to make him a pure support character because Venti and Sucrose are better in this regard. It also requires a bit more investment (which is unlikely at C0). However, I did find more success when building him as a sub-DPS character, making him an interesting pick for your Genshin Impact roster. In most cases, you'd have to choose between two builds: Build Suggested Weapons Suggested Artifacts Suggested Artifact Rolls Pure Support Freedom-Sworn, Iron Sting, or Alley Shot (due to EM) 4-piece VV (top choice) 2-piece VV and 2-piece Wanderer's Troupe Elemental Mastery stacking - EM/Anemo/EM or EM/EM/EM Main or Sub-DPS Freedom-Sworn and Iron Sting are still good, as well as Skyward Blade, Blackcliff Longsword, Sacrificial Sword, Lion's Roar, or Black Sword 4-piece VV (top choice) 2-piece VV and 2-piece Gladiator's Finale ATK%/Anemo/Crit - Having elemental mastery as a sub-stat for your artifacts is okay too His Chihayaburu elemental skill does fair damage and its crowd control (CC) pull is quite decent. Even better, his Soumon Swordsmanship passive allows for elements to be absorbed to deal extra damage. The move can also be used to avoid incoming damage, like a freebie dodge of sorts. Then, there's the Kazuha Slash burst/ult which is great. Imagine a large AoE field that consistently deals Anemo and additional elemental damage to anyone who goes inside it. This lasts for 10 seconds and, because the burst's cooldown is just roughly 13 seconds, you can use it again if you managed to regenerate your energy. Ideally for C0, you'll want to do "E (press) -> Q -> E (hold)" as his sequence. If you get C1, you can do "E (hold) -> Q (resets E cooldown) -> E (hold)." Moreover, if enemies were already affected by elements beforehand, then your Swirls can easily shred any existing shields. In any case, Kazuha (as main DPS or sub DPS) excels as part of quickswap party comps, which means he doesn't mesh well with "selfish carry" fighters like Xiao or Razor. You'll be better off when he's got backups such as Fischl, Xiangling, Ganyu, Bennett, Mona, Beidou, or characters whose elemental abilities stay on the field longer/affect multiple targets. Likewise, Klee and Childe work well with him. Childe can reliably hit foes with Riptide (Kazuha's CC leaves enemies closer to the ground unlike Venti's). Meanwhile, Klee's mines can get funneled in by Kazuha's pull CC (though, to be fair, Klee would shine more as the main DPS in another squad). Finally, you can bring Albedo and Diona (C6) along for consistent shielding and elemental mastery stacking. It's worth noting that Sucrose's percentage-based EM bonus doesn't apply to Kazuha's damage conversion, but Albedo's and Diona's perks still work since they give flat value increases.
