Genshin Impact: Ruin Sentinels and Chaos Gear farming guide

Robot annihilation.

When I decided to pull Kamisato Ayaka, I was tempted to use Genshin Impact‘s new Epitomized Path mechanic just so I could get the Mistsplitter Reforged, her best-in-slot (BIS) sword. Heck, even if I didn’t acquire it, I would want to have resources to spare just for the Amenoma Kageuchi, Kitain Cross Spear, and Katsuragikiri Nagamasa. Unfortunately, the mobs that drop these resources tend to be rare and hard to find. Still, here’s our Genshin Impact Ruin Sentinel locations guide to help you farm for Chaos Gear, Chaos Axis, and Chaos Oculus materials.

Genshin Impact – Ruin Sentinel locations and Chaos Gear farming guide

Ruin Sentinels in Genshin Impact can be tough to find. Worse, a select few are only found in areas that you can only reach after progressing further in certain quests. On the bright side, when you come across a bunch of these guys, it’s like hitting the jackpot. You can destroy several of them in one go, akin to the four Ruin Guards that you tend to annihilate whenever you visit Guyun Stone Forest. This nets you several Chaos Gear, Chaos Axis, or rarer Chaos Oculus materials.

In any case, here are the Ruin Sentinel and Chaos Gear/Chaos Axis/Chaos Oculus farming locations that I’ve found in Genshin Impact‘s Inazuma region.

Ruin Sentinel Chaos Gear location #1: Narukami Island – Araumi (above ground)

A bunch of Ruin Sentinels tend to patrol around the area. There’s also a single one that’s idle in a corner.

Ruin Sentinel Chaos Gear location #2: Narukami Island – Araumi (underground passage/ritual site)

There are five here, but you’ll need to do the Sacred Sakura Cleansing Ritual quest. Once you have the Memento Lens gadget, you’ll be able to open the seal inside the ruined tower in Araumi. Then, you’ll find yourself in the underground region where you need to complete a few puzzles.

From the Araumi ritual shrine, head to the right to find one mob. After draining the water, you can keep going deeper. Four more enemies will greet you just before the underground fast travel point.

Ruin Sentinel Chaos Gear location #3: Yashiori Island – Serpent’s Head (hill)

This location tends to get marked if you use the Adventurer’s Handbook. It’s a location that you’ll visit as you’re doing the Orobashi’s Legacy quest and/or Gourmet Supremos quest.

You’ll have to get the Electrograna buff to activate a switch, draining the water down below. Three of these annoying, robot hostiles are waiting here.

Ruin Sentinel Chaos Gear location #4: Yashiori Island – Serpent’s Head (dragon skull)

This one is part of the Fate of the Fighter/Stone Tablets objective. While outside, you’ll need to follow two Electro Seelie until they’re placed in the dragon skull’s eye sockets. This will open a metal grate.

Down below in the chamber with the switch puzzle, you’ll find a single enemy.

Ruin Sentinel Chaos Gear location #5: Yashiori Island – Fort Mumei

Continue onward with the Orobashi’s Legacy quest chain until you’re asked to go to Fort Mumei. The submerged section will rise from the tides, revealing an island that has four of these baddies.

Ruin Sentinel Chaos Gear location #6: Kannazuka – Tatarasuna

There are two spots in Tatarasuna. The first is a small cavern west of the fast travel point. There are several entrances here (i.e., a hole at the top of a plateau and two pathways from the coast/riverbed).

You’ll see an Electroculus and an elite Nobushi. After eliminating the samurai, a couple of mechanical mobs will appear.

If you revisit this area after a daily reset, you probably won’t see any Ruin Sentinels. That’s because you need to climb on a specific branch (seen in the image below).

It’s the one you see while facing east (where the Electroculus used to be if you already picked it up). This will force the Ruin Sentinels to reappear.

Note: Thanks to Redditor ArcaneWeapon of r/AyakaMains for letting me know that these two mobs do respawn.

Non-respawning Ruin Sentinels: Kannazuka – Tatarasuna

The other location is inside the Arsenal Gate where you can obtain the Katsuragiriki Nagamasa as part of the Tatara Tales quest.

Mind you, the Ruin Sentinels here don’t actually respawn, but you could still collect the Chaos Gear/Chaos Axis materials that they drop on your first kill.
