Genshin Impact Sayu guide — Weapons, artifacts, and talents

Sayu is a new 4-star Anemo claymore-wielder who joins Genshin Impact's roster. This kid looks odd (I guess she's a ninja who wears a tanuki hoodie). Funnily enough, she hasn't appeared in any quest that I know of. In any case, here’s our Genshin Impact Sayu guide to help you with her best weapons, artifacts, talents, and build. Genshin Impact Sayu guide: Best weapons, artifacts, and talents You can refer to the pages below for the parts that you need help with: Best weapons Best artifact sets Talent priorities and constellation Character ascension materials Gameplay tips and character summary Note 1: Sayu is part of Yoimiya's banner, the "Tapestry of Golden Flames," which runs from August 10 until August 31. Note 2: Information about Sayu has already been leaked and data-mined ahead of release (i.e., you can see this listed via Honey Hunter World/Honey Impact). Genshin Impact: The best weapon for Sayu Let’s talk about the best weapons that can be used by Sayu in Genshin Impact. Katsuragikiri Nagamasa (energy recharge) - The Katsuragikiri Nagamasa's blueprint can be obtained inside the Arsenal Gate cavern. You can gain access to it by finding unique keys once you've progressed further in the Tatara Tales questline. The Katsuragikiri Nagamasa is an ideal weapon for Sayu in Genshin Impact since it's a free-to-play option, and it's got energy recharge as a sub-stat. Likewise, its "Samurai Conduct" perk increases her elemental skill's damage by 6%. An additional perk effect makes her lose 3 energy when her skill hits an opponent, but she'll regenerate an extra bit for the next six seconds. This can even happen while she's not on the field. Sacrificial Greatsword (energy recharge) - Sacrificial Greatsword does seem like another decent choice for Sayu. It has a chance to reset her elemental skill cooldown once her roll hits an enemy. Rainslasher (elemental mastery) - Elemental mastery is an important stat for Sayu, which is why Rainslasher is another good weapon for her. It increases the damage done against enemies affected by Hydro and Electro only, so you'd want other party members who use those elements to be in the party with her. Note: You might be wondering why I didn't include 5-star weapons such as Wolf's Gravestone and Skyward Pride. Well, at this time, we don't know yet if Sayu will be viable as a main DPS/carry. Wolf's Gravestone, if it's the only 5-star claymore that you have, is better suited for main DPS characters (i.e., Diluc, Eula, and Razor). Skyward Pride is definitely viable for Sayu, but if you have a claymore-wielding main DPS and you don't have Wolf's Gravestone, then that should still go to them (unless you're confident with dodging/absorbing everything to keep all your Serpent Spine stacks). Anyway, let's go to the next part of our Genshin Impact Sayu guide to talk about the best artifacts for her. Genshin Impact: The best artifact sets for Sayu – Viridescent Venerer vs. other options Let's take a look at some of the best artifact set combos for Sayu. 4-piece Viridescent Venerer 2-piece bonus - +15% Anemo damage bonus. 4-piece bonus - +60% Swirl damage; decreases the opponent's elemental resistance to the element infused in the Swirl by 40% for 10 seconds. The Viridescent Venerer artifact set (from the Valley of Remembrance domain) is the most obvious choice for Sayu given how Anemo sub-DPS and support characters tend to use Swirl. 2-piece Viridescent Venerer + 2-piece Wanderer's Troupe/Noblesse Oblige/Gladiator's Finale/Shimenawa's Reminisce You'll get the +15% Anemo bonus from Viridescent Venerer, plus: Wanderer's Troupe - +80 elemental mastery. Noblesse Oblige - +20% elemental burst damage. Gladiator's/Shimenawa's - +18% ATK. These combos are viable if you're still looking for ideal Viridescent Venerer drops for a full 4-piece set with decent rolls. Lastly, I wouldn't recommend the Maiden Beloved set at all. Sayu has a fairly high base ATK stat, so you won't need the healing boost from that set. It's better to build her as a sub-DPS with healing capabilities (like Jean). Artifact stats Here are the ideal artifact rolls for Sayu: Main stats (C1 to C5) – Anemo damage for the goblet and ATK% for the sands. For the circlet, choose either crit rate, crit damage, or ATK%. It might be viable to have elemental mastery if you have her at C6, but we'll see. Sub-stats – Flat ATK, ATK%, crit rate, and/or crit damage. Again, EM could be a good sub-stat to look for in artifacts if she's at C6. Note: Swirls will not crit. However, her skill/kick and burst/Muji-Muji Daruma should still be able to. Anyway, let's discuss talent priorities and constellations in the next part of our Genshin Impact Sayu guide. Sayu’s talent priorities Let’s discuss Sayu’s capabilities and talent priorities. Normal Attack: Shuumatsuban Ninja Blade - This talent affects Sayu's normal, charged, and plunging attacks. You likely won't be leveling this up anytime soon. Yoohoo Art: Fuuin Dash - Sayu's elemental skill has two versions: press and hold. Both cause her to enter the Fuufuu Windwheel state where she'd roll and deal a Fuufuu Whirlwind Kick afterward. However, the held version allows you to control her movement while rolling for 10 seconds. The FuuFuu Whirlwind Kick that occurs afterward will deal even greater damage. Moreover, the held version causes the Elemental Absorption effect. Any Pyro, Hydro, Cryo, or Electro effect that Sayu comes into contact with while rolling will absorb that element so she can deal additional damage. Still, using this charged version of her elemental skill will incur a longer cooldown depending on how long she's been rolling. Yoohoo Art: Mujina Fury - Sayu's elemental burst causes multiple instances of healing and damage: Upon activation, Sayu will deal Anemo damage to enemies, while healing nearby party members as well. The amount healed scales based on Sayu's ATK. The burst will also summon a Muji-Muji Daruma. This odd-looking creature will heal characters if they have 70% or less HP, or if there are no opponents around. If nearby characters are above 70% HP, the Muji-Muji Daruma will attack hostiles. Again, the healing will scale off Sayu's ATK. The burst sequence has a 12-second duration and a 20-second cooldown. It's rather expensive, requiring 80 energy to be cast. Note: Sayu's talents require Light booklets (from the Violet Court domain every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday), as well as Nectar from Whopperflower mobs. At higher levels, you'll need the Gilded Scale from Azhdaha. Passive talents: Yoohoo Art: Silencer's Secret - If Sayu is in your party, crystalflies and certain animals won't get started when you go near them. Someone More Capable - If Sayu triggers a Swirl reaction, she'll heal all characters and nearby allies for 300 HP. She'll heal an additional 1.2 HP for every elemental mastery stat that she has. No Work Today - The Muji-Muji Daruma from your elemental burst will have a larger AoE attack range against enemies, and it'll also heal characters near its initial healing target for 20%. Constellations Sayu is a 4-star character in Genshin Impact, which means it'll be a lot easier to rank up her Constellations (if you're up for it). At best, you could just try to get Constellation 1 (C1). Here are her Constellation effects: C1: Multi-Task no Jutsu - The Muji-Muji Daruma ignores HP limits. It can now attack and heal at the same time. C2: Egress Prep - +3.3% FuuFuu Whirlwind Kick damage; additional +3.3% damage for every 0.5 seconds that Sayu is in a Windwheel state (i.e., rolling). You can gain a maximum of +66% damage for her kick. C3: Eh, the Bunshin Can Handle It - +3 levels for your elemental skill; maximum level is 15. C4: Skiving New and Improved -1.2 energy whenever Sayu triggers a Swirl reaction; can occur every two seconds. C5: Speed Comes First - +3 levels for your elemental burst; maximum level is 15. C6: Sleep O'Clock - The Muji-Muji Daruma will benefit from every point of Sayu's elemental mastery stat: +0.2% ATK (maximum of 400% ATK). +3 HP restored (maximum of 6,000 HP). Anyway, let's talk about character ascension materials in the next part of our Genshin Impact Sayu build guide. Character ascension materials Sayu’s character ascension materials can be found all over Teyvat. Here they are: Nectar - Dropped by Whopperflower mobs. Vayuda Turquoise – Dropped by the Anemo Hypostasis and Maguu Kenki; purchased from Souvenir Shop; higher-tier versions can be crafted by an alchemist NPC. Marionette Core – Dropped by the Maguu Kenki. Crystal Marrow - These materials are found on Yashiori Island and Kannazuka. You can refer to our Crystal Marrow farming locations guide for more info. Note: Sayu gains extra elemental mastery from certain ascension/leveling thresholds (up to a maximum of 96 elemental mastery). Anyway, let’s talk about what you can expect when Sayu is part of your Genshin Impact team. Gameplay tips and character summary We’ve discussed Sayu's weapons, artifacts, and talent priorities in an in-depth manner already, so is she viable in your Genshin Impact teams? To see where she'd fit in, we have to consider the other Anemo characters in the game: Venti (support) - Venti is easily one of the most useful support characters in the game due to his strong crowd control (pull/gather) and Swirl infusion. Kazuha (DPS/support) - Kazuha's crowd control is also great, and he's decent in either a DPS or support role. The latter is helped by very high elemental mastery scaling and damage conversions. Xiao (DPS) -Xiao doesn't even care about infusions or gathering. His burst nuke speaks for itself. Sucrose (support) - A C6 Sucrose that has elemental mastery fully stacked will greatly buff your squad's damage while weakening enemies. Jean (sub-DPS/support) - Jean can heal, gather, and cheese enemies via fall damage. The biggest problem with Sayu at the moment is that she's part of a niche role with certain limitations. She has support capabilities (healing and Swirls), but she can't gather mobs around her. Her ability with the highest possible damage, the Fuufuu Whirlwind Kick, does require you to charge her elemental skill and control her roll (which I found a bit janky). It led to moments that ruined my damage sequence and party rotation. We also need to consider the wording of her skill when it comes to the Elemental Absorption effect. It looks like this only works on elements that Sayu comes into contact with while she's rolling (i.e., the character model itself). This won't get triggered by a wide AoE (i.e., Kazuha's charged skill and burst) or generated abilities (i.e., Venti's tornado or Sucrose's wind spirit). Oh, and trying to stack elemental mastery with her (if she's not C6) is a bit wasteful. You'll gain more benefits if these artifacts are equipped by Kazuha or Sucrose. Still, the Muji-Muji Daruma, from her elemental burst, does seem interesting. You could have a means of healing your party while also dealing damage to foes. Overall, Sayu simply doesn't offer anything that other Anemo characters are known for. At best, she can be someone who's in your party while exploring the overworld map. She can roll to speed up your movement and traversal (unless she gets stuck), and she's a claymore user (which means she can destroy mineral nodes quickly). Likewise, one of her passives even prevents crystalflies from fluttering away so you can easily grab them.
