Genshin Impact: Theater Mechanicus guide

Theater Mechanicus is a new tower defense activity that you can play during Genshin Impact's Lantern Rite event. The whole thing's also related to various currencies and rewards such as Xiao Lanterns, Veneficus Sigils, and Peace Talismans. Here's our guide to help you out. Genshin Impact: Theater Mechanicus guide I've split up this guide into multiple parts due to several concepts that we need to discuss. You can refer to the pages below for the ones that you need help with: Obtaining Xiao Lanterns and starting a Theater Mechanicus run The basics of Theather Mechanicus, constructing towers, character picks, and co-op play Wave transitions and Mystic Arts Maps, points, and Veneficus Sigils (upgrade points) Armory: The best Mechanici tower upgrades Characters: The ideal picks when playing the mini-game Peace Talismans, challenges, and difficulty levels Obtaining Xiao Lanterns and starting your Theater Mechanicus run First, make sure you've completed the starter quests to unlock the Lantern Rite festival itself. One of these quests has you talking to an NPC named Jingming who'll let you know how to craft Xiao Lanterns. Xiao Lanterns can be crafted via the alchemy bench, and you need the following ingredients: 1x Lantern Fiber - You'll get these whenever you pick up plants and flowers. 1x Wick Material - These drop from various hilichurl and Fatui enemies. 1x Plaustrite Shard - Simply mine some ore nodes to obtain these. Next, speak to Ruijin. She's at Liyue Harbor right next to Ji Tong (the Kurious Kamera NPC). Ruijin will let you do one trial run of Theather Mechanicus for free. However, all subsequent runs require one Xiao Lantern. Anyway, let's talk about the basics of tower defense. Theater Mechanicus: The basics The Theater Mechanicus might be one of the most fun and creative mini-games you can do in Genshin Impact. Let's talk about the basics to help you win your runs. Tower Defense: Genshin Impact style For starters, think of the Theater Mechanicus as a tower defense mini-game. Your characters can use their abilities, but they don't do damage. For the most part, you'll want them around to trigger elemental reactions. As for the actual damage, this comes from all the "Mechanici" (towers) that you can place all over the field. By default, you've got Tidal Flats (Hydro), Spark (Pyro), Thin Ice (Cryo), Thunderstrike (Electro), and Recovery (extra construction points). Towers can be upgraded, but we'll discuss this concept later. Note: You can build towers by spending Veneficus Points. However, for the sake of clarity, I'll refer to these as "construction points" throughout this guide. Placing towers and elemental combos Once you start a Theater Mechanicus run, you've got around a minute to set up your towers. Remember the elemental reactions and combos that are part of Genshin Impact's combat system. These are extremely vital to your success, which means you want decent tower placements, enough to ensure that you can trigger elemental reactions often. For example, having the Tidal Flats (Hydro) tower next to Thin Ice (Cryo) will often cause enemies to get frozen. Alternatively, Spark (Pyro) next to Thunderstrike (Electro) will cause overload explosions. Note 1: Construction points for towers are earned by killing enemies. As you progress, you can reconstruct towers to change them into a different type (construction point cost is discounted), or dismantle them to earn extra construction points. Note 2: Each Theater Mechanicus run limits you to a number of towers, so you'll have to think twice about the ones you'll build. Note 3: Moreover, you'll need to prevent a set number of enemies from escaping throughout your run since this leads to a failure. This makes freezing combos highly necessary since there are mobs that can be quite fast (i.e., samachurls). Character picks and co-op play Likewise, the characters you choose will become very important. While your characters might not be able to deal damage or gather elemental particles, they should be able to kickstart elemental combos that synergize with the towers. Some decent picks include Ganyu (Cryo reactions), Mona/Childe (Hydro reactions), Xiangling/Klee (Pyro reactions), and Fischl (Electro reactions). Furthermore, Anemo characters like Venti and Jean are able to push away mobs to prevent them from escaping. Matchmaking is even enabled to speed up the process. In this case, you and the second player will have two characters each. The biggest upside, however, is that you have a separate pool of construction points. Just make sure to communicate effectively since you can't remove/change a teammate's towers and vice versa. Anyway, let's talk about Mystic Arts and what happens during wave transitions. Mystic Arts and wave transitions After defeating all the enemies in a wave, you'll have a short transition where you can select Mystic Arts. The Mystic Arts that appear tend to be random, and most of them cost construction points once selected. If you're playing co-op, each player gets to pick their own Mystic Art modifier that becomes active. Here are some examples: Mystic Art Cost X-type tower has increased attack 160 X-type tower has increased attack speed 40 X-type tower has increased range 120 X-type tower has increased elemental mastery 80 X-type tower has decreased costs 40 Increased construction points gained from tower deconstruction 75 Reduced cooldown of stage interactions 75 Tower specialties In some cases, you might see Mystic Arts that are the specialties of certain towers. Here are the ones I've seen so far: Mystic Art Cost Cryo towers fire at an extra target; +150% damage vs. frozen opponents 300 Hydro towers gain +150% damage vs. wet opponents 300 Electro towers gain +50% damage bonus with each attack (stacks up to five times); lasts 30 seconds 300 Extra enemies or effects Lastly, some Mystic Arts might cause additional enemies to spawn or they might provide a new effect (with a slight detriment). Here are some examples: Mystic Art Cost Fearless – A Ruin Guard or Ruin Grader will spawn at the start of the wave. Defeating this enemy awards extra Veneficus Sigils at the end of the run. 0 Fickle – X-type tower might be unable to attack for one wave; increased range/attack afterward. 0 Anyway, let's discuss maps, challenges, and Veneficus Sigils. Maps, challenges, and Veneficus Sigils Now, let's discuss the Theater Mechanicus' maps and Veneficus Sigil rewards. You can review the available Theater Mechanicus maps by opening the event's panel, clicking on "Stage Features," and looking at the "Stage" tab. You'll also receive a few hints regarding tower placement and enemy elimination. Note: Only two maps are available today in Genshin Impact. The rest will get unlocked in the coming days or upon reaching stages in the Lantern Rite festival. As for Veneficus Sigils, these are rewards you obtain after completing a Theater Mechanicus run. To know how many you'll get, look at the "Challenge" tab. You can see a few of these examples in the image below: Depending on how effective you were in your run, you should amass a lot of these in a short span of time.
