Towers, Fortune Sticks, Mystic Sticks, and special modifiers

First, take a look at the Armory page for Whither the Wind Wends to see the lay of the land. The Whither the Wind Wends challenge in Genshin Impact has the following key tidbits:

  • You’ll receive more Veneficus Points (i.e., tower build points) when you kill enemies by dropping them/pushing them off the edge.
  • You’re limited to the following towers: 4x Pyro, 5x Anemo, 4x Electro, and 5x Banishment.

Ideal characters

Try to have at least one Cryo and one Hydro character for the permafreeze effect. Although the towers can absolutely annihilate your foes, it’s always a good idea to have more crowd control methods. Also, you can bring the Geo Traveler along since the barrels spawned by the elemental skill can block passageways.

Show of Force

The first difficulty is called Show of Force. This is mostly a refresher, as this is your typical Theater Mechanicus map with two portals, two bridges, and several spots where you can place towers.

Likewise, it’s fairly easy to reach the 1,500 and 2,500-point thresholds to obtain rewards in the event panel. In any case, you can take a look at the image below for the Fortune Sticks and Mystic Sticks that I picked:

When you spawn in, you’ll notice that several Pyro, Anemo, and Banishment towers are already up and running. I personally didn’t dismantle or change anything at the start, although I did build additional Anemo towers that are facing the edges of the map.

At best, you’ll just construct more DPS towers in the lower section due to all the mob clusters that spawn. As for the top section, you’ll want to wait for tougher enemies to appear (i.e., Ruin Guards) before interacting with the switch that causes the bridge to disappear.

Note: This makes the “Falling” Mystic Stick ideal since it lowers the cooldown of the bridges.

Enter the Horde

This difficulty also has two score thresholds with rewards: 1,500 and 2,500 points. The difference is that there are more enemies, and they’re tougher than before. Here are my suggested Fortune Sticks and Mystic Sticks:

As far as how the challenge plays out:

  • At the start, dismantle all the towers in the top section.
  • In the lower area, rotate the two Anemo towers so that they face north, and place a Banishment tower near them that’s facing east.
  • In the bottom section where you’ll see the Banishment tower at the steps, you’ll want to plop down a Pyro tower and Electro tower.
  • You may also construct another Banishment tower facing the staircase that’s further away, plus an extra Anemo tower that’s facing east.

With the above, you’ll only need to worry about the bridge controls in the elevated section. You should have enough time to drop the mobs that are heading to the top. Meanwhile, the towers in the lower area will take care of the weaker mobs.

Here’s what you can expect during the later waves:

  • Try to build more DPS towers in the slots next to the Pyro/Electro towers mentioned earlier, as well as the slots near the exit point.
  • In the elevated section, you’ll see a wave sequence of Ruin Guards, 3x Slimes, Geovishaps, and Ruin Graders. As usual, drop ’em by interacting with the bridge controls. Remember, these mobs need to get eliminated or you won’t have enough points to reach the threshold.
  • Samachurls will try to blitz along the bottom area, but they should get killed by your DPS towers.
  • Hydro Abyss Mages are quite dangerous since you can’t use Cryo towers here. If you bring a Cryo character along, they may be able to cause the freeze status if the target isn’t affected by another element.
  • The most hectic part occurs when a bunch of Mitachurls start appearing in the bottom area. You might need elemental skill reactions or those Geo barrels from the Traveler. Likewise, you can replace the Banishment tower below the steps near the exit point with a DPS tower.
  • The final wave will have Ruin Graders (top) and Electro Slimes (bottom). Again, just drop the bridge to kill the Ruin Graders. As for the Slimes, you might need to replace Electro towers with Pyro, Anemo, or Banishment (depending on what you still have left).
