Genshin Impact: Yelan guide — Best weapons, artifacts, and talents

After a long wait, the version 2.7 update in Genshin Impact adds Yelan. This mysterious 5-star character wields a bow and the power of Hydro. Here's our Genshin Impact Yelan guide to help you with the best weapons, artifacts, talents, and build. Genshin Impact Yelan guide - Best weapons, artifacts, and talents I've divided our Genshin Impact Yelan guide into several sections. You can refer to the pages below for the parts that you need help with: Talent priorities, passives, and constellations Best weapons Best artifact sets Character ascension materials Gameplay tips and character summary Note: Yelan headlines a banner called "Discerner of Enigmas," which also includes Yanfei, Barbara, and Noelle. It runs from May 31 until June 21. Genshin Impact Yelan guide - Talent priorities and passives Let's talk about Yelan's build in Genshin Impact based on talent priorities and passives. Normal Attack: Stealthy Bowshot - You can do a fully-charged shot that deals Hydro damage. Breakthrough - If not in combat for five seconds, Yelan's next charged shot has an 80% decreased charge time. You can then fire it to create a Breakthrough Barb which does AoE Hydro damage based on Yelan's max HP. Elemental Skill: Lingering Lifeline - Moves through enemies and marks them. After this action, the marked opponents are hit with Lifeline explosion for Hydro damage based on Yelan's max HP. Breakthrough - Enemies hit by the Lifeline explosion grant a 34% chance to reset Yelan's Breakthrough state. Elemental Burst: Depth-Clarion Dice - Deals AoE Hydro damage then spawns an Exquisite Throw. Exquisite Throw - Follows your character around and will deal Hydro damage based on Yelan's max HP. The damage instance can occur whenever your active character uses a normal attack and when Yelan's Lifeline hits enemies. The burst will likely be your priority over anything else due to how much damage can be done with the coordinated attacks. It will scale based on a percentage of Yelan's max HP, multiplied thrice thereafter. Passive Talents Necessary Calculation - +25% more rewards when dispatched on a Liyue Expedition for 20 hours. Turn Control - Yelan's max HP is increased by 6%/12%/18%/30% if the party has 1/2/3/4 elemental types. Adapt With Ease - As long as Exquisite Throw is active, your character will deal +1% damage up to 3.5% damage every second. The maximum damage increase is 50%, reset only if Yelan's elemental burst is over or recast. Note: Yelan's talents require Prosperity booklets from Taishan Mansion (Monday, Thursday, and Sunday), as well as Fatui Insignias. At higher levels, she needs the Gilded Scale from Azhdaha. Constellations C1: Enter the Plotters - Elemental skill gains +1 charge. C2: Taking All Comers - When Exquisite Throw does a coordinated attack, it will shoot an additional projectile that deals 14% of Yelan's max HP as Hydro damage. C3: Beware the Tricksters Dice - +3 levels for your elemental burst; maximum level is 15. C4: Bait and Switch - All party members' HP is increased by 10% for 25 seconds for every enemy marked by Lifeline when it explodes; maximum increase of 40% HP. C5: Dealer's Sleight - +3 levels for your elemental skill; maximum level is 15. C6: Winner Takes All - After using her burst, Yelan enters the Mastermind state where all her normal attacks will be akin to her charged attacks (i.e., Breakthrough Barbs). These deal 156% of a normal Breakthrough Barb's damage. The Mastermind state lasts for 20 seconds or until Yelan shoots five arrows. Let's face it, trying to get constellations on a 5-star character is very costly. But, if you do want to splurge, your best bet is C1 for an extra elemental skill charge, and C2 due to the additional projectiles that are shot by the Exquisite Throw. If you want to go even further, then there's C4 which adds a massive HP% increase. All right, let's go to the next part of our Genshin Impact Yelan guide to talk about the best weapon options for her. Genshin Impact: The best weapon for Yelan - Aqua Simulacra, Fading Twilight, Elegy for the End, Recurve Bow, Sacrificial Bow, and other options Let's discuss the best weapons in Genshin Impact for Yelan. Aqua Simulacra (crit damage) - This 5-star bow is the best weapon for Yelan, as it is featured alongside her wish banner. It automatically increases her HP by +16%. Likewise, her damage is increased by 20% as long as there are enemies nearby. This effect will remain active even if she's not on the field. Because Yelan's playstyle requires her to be an off-field/sub-DPS, this will benefit the DPS from her Depth-Clarion Dice burst/Exquisite Throw dice turret. Polar Star (crit rate) - This is another 5-star weapon that's decent. It gives +12% elemental skill and burst damage by default. When any type of ability/attack hits an enemy, it provides ATK% stacks. However, it might require Yelan to be more active on the field than usual. Elegy for the End (energy recharge) - Another 5-star option, but this one is for energy recharge given Yelan's costly burst. Elemental mastery is increased by +60 and Yelan's skill/burst grants a Sigil of Remembrance for the party. Once you have four Sigils, the party gains +100 elemental mastery and +20% ATK. Because it can be triggered even when not on the field, you can gain stacks quickly from Lifeline explosions and Exquisite Throw projectiles. Fading Twilight (energy recharge) - This is also an energy recharge option. Thankfully, this weapon for Yelan is of the free-to-play variety from an upcoming event. Attacks that hit opponents (including skills and bursts) change the weapon's state, with each state providing 6%/10%/14% damage. This can be triggered off-field, too. Favonius Warbow (energy recharge) - Another common choice given the energy recharge. If you're stacking crit, then you'll have a higher chance of generating more particles for Yelan's burst. Sacrificial Bow (energy recharge) - Yes, this also has energy recharge, but it might be better than Favonius Warbow. With high refinement, you should be able to reliably reset Yelan's elemental skill cooldown while her burst is active (though it can only occur once every 30 seconds). Still, you can have a sequence where she'll pop her burst -> skill -> auto-attack twice (likely resetting the skill's cooldown) -> skill -> auto-attack. This will also proc more projectiles from her dice turret. This is best used in conjunction with Yelan's Constellation 1 (C1), assuming you want to splurge a bit with her. Blackcliff Warbow (crit damage) - Acquired from Paimon's Shop, this is a viable bow due to the all-important crit damage sub-stat. You also receive a +12% ATK buff for 30 seconds (stacking up to three times) whenever you defeat enemies. A bit of testing, however, might be necessary, as the buff might require Yelan to be on the field as opposed to just letting those explosions/turrets down opponents. Recurve Bow (HP%) - Funnily enough, this is only a 3-star weapon, and its useless perk restores 8% HP when an opponent is defeated. However, the HP% sub-stat grants +46.9% HP when maxed out, which does help Yelan since her damage scales from her max health pool. Okay, let's move on to the next part of our Genshin Impact Yelan guide to talk about the best artifact sets for her. Genshin Impact: The best artifact set for Yelan - Heart of Depth, Emblem of Severed Fate, and other options Let's discuss the best artifact sets in Genshin Impact for Yelan. Emblem of Severed Fate (4-piece) 2-piece bonus - +20% energy recharge. 4-piece bonus - Increases elemental burst damage by 25% of energy recharge; max of 75%. Emblem of Severed Fate from the Momiji-Dyed Court is one of the best artifact sets for Yelan in Genshin Impact. It ensures that Yelan will always have her burst available once its cooldown ends, while also increasing her burst damage. Noblesse Oblige (4-piece) 2-piece bonus - +20% elemental burst damage. 4-piece bonus - Party members gain +20% ATK for 12 seconds after using an elemental burst. Noblesse Oblige might be viable because of the elemental burst increase and the subsequent buff to your allies. Because Yelan will be off the field, your active character/s will benefit from the boost. 2-piece combos: Heart of Depth and Tenacity of the Millelith 2-piece bonus (Heart of Depth) - +15% Hydro damage. 2-piece bonus (Tenacity of the Millelith) - +20% HP. A third option also exists, and that's combining Heart of Depth and Tenacity of the Millelith for their respective 2-piece bonuses. Alternatively, you could also opt for either of these, plus Emblem of Severed Fate or Noblesse Oblige. Artifact rolls Main stats - Due to scaling, you'll want an HP% sands and a Hydro goblet. As for the circlet, crit damage is a suitable main stat, though you could try to have HP% as well (assuming the crit damage sub-stat rolled high enough). Sub-stats - You'll want crit damage, HP%, and energy recharge on your artifact rolls. Extra crit rate might also be necessary, though you should consider Yelan's ascension. Note: Yelan's character ascension will also increase her crit rating (up to 24.2% past level 80). The end goal is to have 65%+ crit rating, more than double that for crit damage, quite a bit of HP% for scaling, and energy recharge so you can burst off-cooldown. In any case, let's go to the next part of our Genshin Impact Yelan guide to talk about character ascension materials. Character ascension materials Yelan's character ascension materials can be found all over Teyvat. Here they are: Fatui Insignia - Dropped by Fatui Skirmishers/Agents/Mages. Varunada Lazurite – Dropped by the Oceanid and Hydro Hypostasis; purchased from Souvenir Shop; higher-tier versions can be crafted by an alchemist NPC. Runic Fang – Dropped by the Ruin Serpent in The Chasm. Coincidentally, this boss doesn't drop Varunada Lazurite, which means you'll have to farm that material from other foes. Starconch – Similar to what you collected if you leveled Tartaglia/Childe. These are found along the beaches of Yaoguang Shoal and Guyun Stone Forest. Note: Yelan's character ascension will also increase her crit rating (up to 24.2% past level 80). In any case, let’s talk about what you can expect when Yelan is part of your Genshin Impact team. Gameplay tips and character summary We’ve already talked about Yelan's weapons, artifacts, talent priorities, and build in Genshin Impact. So, is she worth it? Team composition Given her kit, one can think of Yelan as akin to Xingqiu (i.e., an elemental burst that triggers additional hits from normal attacks). Yelan does best when you're not using her all the time to carry the team for you, which means you'll need to invest on a main DPS character, too. But, it goes beyond that, since Yelan's Turn Control passive boosts the party's HP as long as you've got different element types (subsequently increasing the damage of her abilities due to HP% scaling). And, lastly, you'll want to take the cost of her burst and particle generation. Given the above, you're looking at this particular setup: Ideal duo: Yelan (Hydro) - Pop her elemental skill and pass through enemies to tag them with Lifeline explosions. Then, pop her burst to spawn your dice turret before swapping to another character. Option #1: Raiden Shogun (Electro) - She'll ensure that your team has their bursts recharged quickly. Option #2: Xingqiu (Hydro) - Xingqiu is Hydro, so you won't get the maximum boost from the Turn Control passive. But, you'll still have a setup where there's another Hydro character striking down opponents while off-field. Plus, he can help generate particles for Yelan. Extra buff and main DPS: Yun Jin (Geo) - This is mostly due to Yun Jin's passive talent, where the normal attack damage bonus of her burst is increased based on different elemental types in your party. Main DPS option #1: Yoimiya (Pyro) - While there are several main DPS characters in Genshin Impact, Yoimiya synergizes with Yun Jin as she primarily spams her normal attack. Main DPS option #2: Hu Tao (Pyro) - Hu Tao is one of the strongest main DPS characters in the game. That being said, you'll want to land a few hits with her normal attack to trigger Yelan's Exquisite Throw dice turret. The only downside, of course, is that you won't have a healer for some high-end battles (and Xingqiu's heals aren't that reliable against Corrosion). In that case, you could drop someone like Yun Jin in favor of a healer with a different element type (i.e., Jean/Sayu for Anemo and Qiqi for Cryo). Nuke sequence Another option is to use Yelan as a nuke sequence, meaning she'll be more active. For this, you'll probably want to get the Sacrificial Bow and Constellation 1 (C1) for the extra elemental skill charge. The sequence is: skill -> burst -> auto-attack x2 -> skill -> auto-attack x2. Quickly alternate between her skill and auto-attacks while her burst is active so the dice turret continuously shoots out projectiles. But, the question remains: should you actually get her? That's entirely up to you, as she can be considered Xinqiu 2.5 (similar element and role). Since Xingqiu is one of the best characters in the game, here's what you get with Yelan: High damage scaling thanks to the HP stat. Someone who can add to your Taser or Vape comp. A similar function/role for your second Spiral Abyss team. Another "turret-style" ability alongside other off-field/sub-DPS characters.
