When the asymmetrical multiplayer game Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed was revealed back in March, we only knew it would have a release date within the last few months of 2022. The next game by the Predator: Hunting Grounds team, Spirits Unleashed will be, well, unleashed at the perfect time. The game is busting out this October, mere weeks from Halloween.
There really is no better month for a spooky game. Granted, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed isn’t your typical horror adventure. Instead, you and three other Ghostbusters team up to take on a single player ghost. It’s reminiscent of a lot of asymmetrical multiplayer games, in which the enemy usually has plenty of tricks to stay alive (ironically) for as long as possible. If the enemy is defeated, or trapped in this case, the four-player team wins. But if you’re a ghost, staying out of harm’s way for long enough will let you haunt for another day.
It seems lopsided at first, but not entirely. The ‘busters are armed with their teamwork and tools, using items like the PKE Meter and Proton Pack to track down the Ghost. However, the spirit is also armed with teleporting rifts and abilities like object possession or minion summoning.

Ahead of its release date, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed pre-orders will open on August 17. Pre-ordering the game is always a player’s choice if you feel confident enough in what’s on the table. With Spirits Unleashed, pre-ordering will unlock Slimer, a custom Particle Thrower and Proton Pack, and “special” clothing colors. Yes, as a multiplayer game in these modern times, there will be plenty of options to change your looks, ranging from Ghostbuster uniforms to Ghost skins. The workbench in the Firehouse hub will let you choose your look, as well as your loadout.
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will haunt the Epic Games Store on its October 18 release date.
