Blizzard are set to release “Global  Play” in the next update in the “coming months” for StarCraft 2 which will allow players to change game regions.

Blizzard has already added this feature to Diablo 3 where you can jump between the three regions (EU, US and Asia). Like Diablo 3, when playing in a region, players will have different profile information for each region. Players will also be able to take part in the different regional ladders and gain access to maps created in each region which means a larger pool of maps will be available to players.

Features listed by Blizzard include:

  • Players will be able to freely switch between regions via the StarCraft II login screen.
  • When your region’s game servers are undergoing maintenance, you may be able to play in a different region that is not down for maintenance.
  • Your game language and user interface will not change when you change regions.
  • Players using Global Play will be subject to the in-game policies of their selected play region.

If you’re a Diablo 3 player and also play StarCraft 2 then you’ll be familiar with how this system works.

Blizzard will be releasing more information on Global Play soon according to the update.
