GOG Galaxy Alpha Shows Promise As Steam Competitor

Wired has shared a preview of the GOG Galaxy Alpha. As it is now, the client is quite promising.

GOG Galaxy is intended to give GOGcom parity with Steam. In its original form, it was merely a client to enable online play for GOG’s DRM-free games. Now, perhaps based on feedback from fans, the client has more parity with Steam, giving you native access to your library, the store, and other features.

Wired has noted some basic features that need updating, such as desktop icons added to each installed game automatically. In my personal experience, Galaxy is unable to find my copy of Super Hexagon, which I already have installed and with some progress on my computer, but gives me an option to install it.

These kinks will need fixing in time, but for now, you can learn more about the client’s current state here.
