GOG offers freebies to anyone furloughed by American shutdown

Oh, America. I want to put a sadface here, but an article isn’t the right place for that sort of thing.

The government shutdown has resulted in a huge number of people being furloughed. Some have taken it upon themselves to help out – there are banks offering free overdrafts to furlouged employees, and restaurants offering free food – and now GOG have jumped in, in a move that’s halfway between “quite sweet” and “ridiculously tasteless.”

If you’ve been furloughed, send them an email to [email protected] with a picture of you holding “the official furlough letter you received” and you’ll get The Guild: Gold Edition, Capitalism, Capitalism 2, Tropico: Gold Edition, Alpha Centauri + Alien CrossfireTheme Hospital, and Redneck Rampage for free. That’s something, I suppose.

If you haven’t been furloughed then those games are all 50% off for the next 24 hours, which drops most of them to between $2.99 and $4.99. And just in case you were wondering why those games are on sale… “Shutdown Promo: Showing you how government works, in case yours doesn’t!” Yeeeah. Although how Redneck Rampage factors into that, I’m not sure.
