H1Z1 monetisation plans. No guns or ammo for sale and looted wearables degrade

The chaps at SOE have been hunched around a table for a couple of days to discuss how the zombie survival H1Z1 game will make money. With one meeting down they’ve come to the conclusion that selling some of the game’s items would simply “suck”.

After the initial meeting on monetisation, SOE’s John Smedley decided to share some of the results and so far it’s all sounding quite sensible with the player in mind. Ammo, guns, food, water and other consumables used to survive will not be for sale and no boosts will be sold that will impact consumables.

The game will come with basic emotes but there will be additional gestures sold. On characters slots they sound a little unsure but say that it “feels reasonable” which I have to agree with. That an inventory slots could work.

The most interesting part of the update is that they will be selling wearables. However the wearable you buy will differ from the wearables that are looted from player because looted clothing will degrade and can only be used for “a few deaths”. Anything that is purchased will never degrade and can not be looted from players.

Finally there’s crates which can be discovered on the world but they’re not sure if players should see the contents before opening them with a purchased key. They compare this system to DOTA 2. These crates are filled with “random cool stuff from the store”.

There’s been some sensible suggestions and SOE appear to be listening to the fans which is just as well or the world could be rather empty place.
