Halo Infinite Causing Players To Lose Data / halo could shift to unreal engine

Halo Infinite is causing players to use up to 1GB of data per match in multiplayer

Not what the game needed right now.

Halo Infinite has come under fire for a variety of issues in the months since its launch last year. But the latest issue may prove to be the worst, depending on your data caps. Developer 343 Industries is now trying to resolve an issue that is causing Halo Infinite players to download large amounts of data every time they play a match in multiplayer.

Twitter user @NicmeistaR found that the game client would use varying amounts of data after a match was complete. They tweeted, “After further inspection I found that an average match only uses about 11MB. However. After each match the main menu retrieves about 300MB of data from the CDN on PC and Xbox. Which after about 2 matches results in over 1GB of network traffic. It’s nuts.”

The HaloSupport Twitter account responded to the problem by saying, “The team is investigating reports of #HaloInfinite downloading extra data after multiplayer matches. An improvement for this issue will be included in August’s Drop Pod update.” In the meantime, 343 has alsodeployed a backend update that improves the amount of data downloaded after multiplayer matches.

343 Industries has a lot of work to do

An unspecified date for a fix is a little worrisome for a problem that could affect the internet data caps of many Halo Infinite players. It’s hard to say what’s causing the issue, so we’ll just have to wait for the official fix.

Unfortunately, this is only the latest of many issues that fans have been having with Halo Infinite. Melee desync, which is when melee attacks don’t register correctly because the sever and client think players are in different locations than they actually are, has not been fixed since launch. Player collision is another lasting issue, causing players to phase through each other and exacerbate the problem. Core Halo features, like campaign co-op and the ability to replay missions at will, are now finally making their way into the game.
