Following some initial outrage and definite confusion, it seems that Agent 47’s latest adventure has been finally sorted out. After first marketing that players would get access to levels from previous games, and then publishing a guide that said otherwise, it seems IO Interactive has finally settled on a reasonable solution for players looking to enjoy Hitman 3. A new update to the pre-launch guide now states that the studio is looking into a solution. The studio guarantees that players will get levels from Hitman and Hitman 2 for free for the upcoming Hitman 3.
However, there is a caveat. With the third entry being an Epic Games Store exclusive, the lack of the second game on the store makes things difficult. Access to the levels from that game will take a while to arrive. In the meantime, the Hitman 1 Game of the Year Access Pass will be free for all PC players. You just need to pre-purchase or purchase Hitman 3 in the first 10 days after the launch.
Problem for another day
It remains to be seen just how IO Interactive will circumvent the issues surrounding Hitman 2 and the promise of making its levels free. Whether that is making the game available for purchase somehow or making the content free separately, this is shaping up to be an interesting situation.
IO maintains that the studio has made every possible effort to make it happen. Although it seemed impossible just a short while ago, they have since changed track. Perhaps the pressure from Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney helped make that happen.
The update from IO Interactive came just a day later after the initial furor. The swift response seems to suggest that the studio always knew the situation would blow up. Here’s hoping that Hitman 3 players will get their hands on those free Hitman 2 levels sooner rather than later.
