Hitman 3 Steam

Hitman 3 players are getting free upgrades after issues with the Steam release

Let off some steam with free DLC.

A year after its release as an Epic Games Store exclusive, Hitman 3 has now made its way over to Steam. However, the January 2021 release wasn’t the celebration that developer IO Interactive had hoped it to be. For starters, players were upset to see a higher price point than that seen on the Epic Games Store. There was also confusion surrounding Hitman 3‘s many editions and upgrades on Steam. It’s safe to say that Steam users haven’t given the warmest of welcomes to Hitman 3.

IO Interactive has decided to release free upgrades as a way of appeasing any upset players. Announced on IO Interactive’s support site for Hitman 3, the dev addressed the issues that Steam users have had. Anyone that currently owns the game, or purchases it from now until February 19, will be entitled to a free upgrade. However, even this gesture is a little confusing due to the many editions of the Hitman games available on Steam.

So there’s free upgrades, but how do you get it?

Players who own or purchase the standard edition of Hitman 3 on Steam, will get a free upgrade to the Deluxe Edition. This edition includes special Escalation Contracts, new suits, items, and digital copies of the game’s soundtrack and the World of Hitman book. The extra content is nice, but it does have a price tag of $34.99 USD, so getting it for free is pretty nice. Players who already own the Deluxe Edition will instead gain access to the Seven Deadly Sins Collection, a seven-act-long expansion that offers up new contracts and items. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re a big fan of Hitman 3, and getting it for free is a fantastic deal.

Alongside this announcement, IO Interactive voiced its disappointment with the current state of Hitman 3‘s Steam release. Stating that, “we didn’t meet our own expectations of a launch experience.” It’s hard to say whether this move will win back the upset members of the player base. Nevertheless, it’s a good first step from IO Interactive. The free upgrades will begin rolling out to players on January 27. If you haven’t tried out any of the Hitman games yet, you can also experience the trilogy on Xbox Game Pass.
